Does anybody else find the audio quality from Stu in New Orleans really poor (pretty muffled)? Even the pre-recorded between-inning ads seem to be coming through in poor quality...

It's very poor and has been for a few games. I'm actually listening to the game on the Zepher's station. Crystal clear....

Only 81 pitches through seven shutout innings (so far) for Chase Wright. His agent basically called the Brewers in February asking for a job for his client, in this case, a return engagement.

It surprised me when Wright made the AAA roster, never mind the rotation.

Hey, good for him, he's making the most of his opportunity. When you're pitching well in AAA, you're basically auditioning for 30 teams.

Adam McCalvy picked up on our injured outfield theme in the transaction thread --

The outfield has been a minefield for Brewers Minor Leaguers, with Adam Stern (oblique) and Brendan Katin (knee) on the disabled list at Triple-A Nashville, Lorenzo Cain (hamstring) slowed at Double-A Huntsville and Logan Schafer (groin) still in extended spring training with a groin injury. Stern is close to returning to action, and Cain's injury, suffered Sunday, is not considered serious.

You could add to that Kentrail Davis' one-week ankle sprain absence at Brevard as well. The Huntsville Times indicated that Cain's injury may be a groin as well, apparently nowhere near the tear that Schafer experienced.

Final: Nashville 12, New Orleans 1

Sounds Score 12 For Series Sweep

NashvilleSounds.com

METAIRIE, La. - The Nashville Sounds exploded to score 12 runs and sweep

the New Orleans Zephyrs on Wednesday afternoon at Zephyr Field in the

finale of a four-game series.

With the best record in the Pacific Coast League at 14-6, Nashville has

already recorded its second sweep of the season and move to a PCL best

11-1 on the road.

Sounds starting pitcher Chase Wright (2-0) had a career day, allowing

six hits with a strikeout and a walk over seven shutout innings in his

team-leading third quality start of the season. The southpaw also went a

career high 2-for-4 with a walk and three runs scored at the plate.

Nashville recorded both season-highs with 12 runs and 17 hits in the

victory, while going 7-for-16 with runners in scoring position. Catcher

Jonathan Lucroy posted a season-high four hits, while infielders Eric

Farris and Ray Olmedo each added two hits and three runs scored.

Wright helped his own cause in the top of the third inning, singling to

left field to begin the rally. Farris followed with another base hit and

moved Wright to third base. Olmedo then sacrificed Wright home for the

club's first run with Joe Koshansky and [Norris Hopper] driving home the next two

runs for a Nashville 3-0 lead.

The Sounds extended the lead in the following frame, scoring both runs

with two outs for a 5-0 advantage. Farris doubled and again was brought

home by Olmedo for the first run. Adam Heether then doubled home Olmedo

for the other score.

Nashville tacked on three additional runs in the in the top of the sixth

inning, as Wright reached base via walk to start the damage. After

Olmedo singled again, Wright scored his second run on a Hector Luna

throwing error. Koshansky drove home the next run with another

base-knock to right field, with Hopper plating the final run of

the inning with an infield groundout.

Wright led off the following inning with his third hit of the game,

followed by Farris' second double that advanced Wright to third. After

an Olmedo walk, Heether was hit by Chris Schroder's first pitch of the

at-bat that brought home Wright and made it 9-0. Lucroy's fourth hit

brought home the next run, with Hopper and Johnny Raburn each drawing

based loaded walks for a 12-0 lead.

New Orleans' lone run came in the eighth inning as outfielder Jason Lane

singled home pitcher Taylor Tankersley.

Zephyrs starting pitcher Jorge Sosa was taken out the game after the

fourth inning after allowing five runs on 10 hits with four strikeouts

to earn the loss (1-1). Schroder was tagged for four runs in 1 1/3

innings in relief.

A.J. Murray allowed one run in one inning in relief while Mitch Stetter

ended the contest with a scoreless frame.

After an off day tomorrow, the Sounds travel back to Music City to

welcome the 2009 PCL Champion and American Northern division-rival

Memphis Redbirds for Thursday evening's 7:05 pm CT contest at historic

Greer Stadium. Right-hander Kameron Loe (2-1, 3.70) takes the hill for

Nashville against Redbirds southpaw Evan MacLane (1-2, 3.71).

Nashville box score

How do you get four hits while your team scores 12 runs and only have one (R+RBI)? Mitch Stetter's now put up 6.1 scoreless innings since his demotion; I hope Jeff Suppan is writing him frequently, preferably with checks included, grandma-style. Three different pitchers drew walks today; the two walks to Zephyrs pitchers were the only free passes handed out by the Sounds today--go figure.

Suppan's roster spot grows more and more ridiculous every day. With Stetter, Braddock, Axford, and Smith, there are at least 4 pitchers in Nashville who would be more valuable to the Brewers than Suppan. But on the flip side, you could argue that we don't really need another quality reliever right now, so we might as well keep the service clocks paused until the need arises. I'm not saying that's a good argument, but it's an argument.

Cappy with 5 innings w/o a run and 3 hits so far. 5Ks and 0BB. Nice outing to start the long road back.

I'm surprised he went that many innings in his first start. He must have had a really low pitch count.

I've intentionally downplayed Cappy's return because the odds are so firmly stacked against him, but it's incredibly hard not to be excited about and for him. He's such an excellent man looking to beat the longest of odds in baseball. What a fantastic story it will make if he can make it all the way back.

That being said he should dominate A ballers, which is what made Suppan's rehab starts so troubling the last 2 seasons, any MLB quality pitcher should roll over kids in A ball. I'll be extremely curious to see how things work out for him as he continues to move up the chain on his way back.

Congrats on an excellent debut Cappy.

Final: Brevard County 3, Clearwater 0

Brevard County box score

Chris Capuano's road back to the big leagues got off to a good start. Everyone's favorite vamire-loving lefty tossed five scoreless innings, striking out five, walking none, and allowing three hits. Dan Merklinger, who is also left-handed, though I'm not sure his stance on nosferatu, was even better, striking out five in four scoreless innings to finish the game, walking none and surrendering just one hit. Sergio Miranda led the Manatees offense with three hits and two stolen bases, while Kentrail Davis and Erik Miller had two base knocks and a steal each, and Erik Komatsu walked twice. Josh Prince was 1-5.

Brevard County play-by-play

Okay, I know I said that BC should take chances on the bases because of the low run environment, but it sure seems like they're getting thrown out at home a lot:

Brevard County Top 1st

  • Josh Prince singles on a line
drive to center fielder Anthony Gose.
  • Sergio Miranda singles
on a line drive to right fielder Brian Gump. Josh Prince to 3rd.
  • Erik
Komatsu flies into double play, right fielder Brian Gump to catcher Tim
Kennelly. Josh Prince out at home on the throw.
  • With
Kentrail Davis batting, Sergio Miranda steals (2) 2nd base.
  • Kentrail
    Davis called out on strikes.
