Long ball gives West Tenn a victory

By David Thomas, Jackson (TN) Sun

It was the perfect storm.

But the Diamond Jaxx's 12-1 win over the Huntsville Stars at Pringles Park on Friday had nothing to do with the weather, though the game was called after a 37-minute rain delay in the bottom of the seventh.

Mike Wilson had a pair of home runs, and Carlos Triunfel drilled a grand slam as the Jaxx closed out a 10-game homestand.

The Jaxx ended the game with five round-trippers, which gives West Tenn a Southern League leading 20 home runs.

Triunfel's shot highlighted a seven-run, second inning which included back-to-back shots by Wilson and Guillermo Quiroz to open the inning off Huntsville starter Chris Cody.

Leury Bonilla was hit by a Cody pitch, which loaded the bases for Triunfel after back-to-back singles by Johan Limonta and Alex Liddi.

After Triunfel's blast gave the Jaxx a 6-0 lead, Wilson greeted Huntsville reliever Mark Willinsky with a one-out triple for his second hit of the inning that scored Dustin Ackley.

Peguero and Wilson played long ball in the fourth as the Jaxx upped their lead to 11-1.

Triunfel reached on an error to open the fourth and scored one out later when Peguero went yard with his fifth of the year.

Wilson, who leads the Southern League in homers, hit his second of the game and his sixth of the season after Ackley walked.

Jaxx pitcher Steve Hensley won for the first time in 2010 and lowered his earned run average to 1.80.

The Stars managed its only run off Hensley in the fourth after Lorenzo Cain opened the inning with a double, Huntsville's first hit of the game.

Cain scored on a two-out infield hit by Zelous Wheeler. After Taylor Green singled, Hensley worked his way out of the inning when Triunfel threw Steffan Wilson out from short.

Cody allowed six runs (all earned) on six hits in 1.2 innings of work.
