MiLB.com is not doing a good job of keeping their box scores / game logs up-to-date, especially live during these early games. Nothing yet on that count.

Chris' audio link is fine, though, and the Rattlers have strung together several hits in the 2nd (still in progress) to take a 2-0 lead. Pete Fatse remains hot, Sean Halton an RBI and D'Vontrey Richardson with a couple of base hits already back through the middle.

Nick Bucci with a scoreless first, he thought he had a called third strike on a batter who eventually doubled.

Nick Bucci with a 7-to-0 GB/FB ratio through three innings. Love Mr. Bucci...

More production from Fatse, Halton, and Paciorek in the 4th (still in progress), although Halton was out at the plate on a Paciorek double.

5-0 Rattlers (D'Vontrey Richardson an RBI triple, 3-for-3), as this is shaping up as a fun afternoon for the boys. Looking forward to progress from Del Howell later on.

I read all the minor league stuff and its still hard to keep up with all the pitching prospects, at least for me. If anyone felt motivated a review with some thoughts on stuff and ETAs would be valuable.

In progress:

Wisconsin 9, Quad Cities (Cardinals) 1, top of the 7th in Iowa

Quad Cities loaded the bases with none out in both the 4th and 5th innings against Nick Bucci, but only one run scored in the two frames combined thanks to Bucci's Houdini act in the 4th and a sweet double play grounder induced by reliever RHP Andre Lamontagne in the 5th. Lamontagne, like fellow righty Hiram Burgos, gets kind of lost with all the higher-profile starters and tandem guys, but is another to keep an eye on.

20-year-old Chris Dennis is just a beast. His two-run blast in the 6th was his 4th home run of the year (the Rattlers have seven home runs as a team). Dennis' left-handed swing should play just fine even at Space Coast, as will his 1.272 OPS (coming into today's game). Goodness knows the Manatees will gladly accept that production, when that inevitable day comes.

That Frederick Parejo for the River Bandits is not the former Brewers' farmhand.

Wisconsin Top 6th

  • Pitcher Change: LaCurtis Mayes replaces Eric Fornataro.
  • Joseph Paciorek reaches on fielding error by right fielder Edgar Lara. Joseph Paciorek to 2nd.
  • Michael Marseco bunt grounds out, pitcher LaCurtis Mayes to first baseman Matthew Adams. Joseph Paciorek to 3rd.
  • D' Vontrey Richardson pops out to second baseman Luis Mateo.
  • Ryan Gennett walks.
  • Khristopher Davis doubles (7) on a fly ball to center fielder Frederick Parejo. Joseph Paciorek scores. Ryan Gennett scores.
  • Chris Dennis homers (4) on a fly ball to right center field. Khristopher Davis scores.
  • Cameron Garfield strikes out swinging, catcher Ivan Castro to first baseman Matthew Adams.

Joey Paciorek should have had a base hit in the post above (he has now singled in the 7th as well). Chris paints a nice picture, and gives realistic opinions (and offers restrained disgust) on some of these Midwest League park scoring decisions.

I really hope Howell doesn't lose his confidence, he just doesn't have the pitching experience, only 90 total innings in college, and the results weren't that good in college either.

Pretty pumped for Peralta at 6 tonight. I know Keith Law isn't as smart as he thinks he is, but he hasn't been this excited for a Brewer pitcher since YoGa was coming through. He has gushed about Wily a couple of times this spring already.

I think there are some pretty obvious promotions coming. Some with injury and some once the draft is over.

Cain to AAA once Schafer is back. Hopefully that happens within a month.

Lucroy is headed to Milwaukee as soon as his arby clock gets pushed (imo at least and only if he avoids a major slump).

Dennis will be in BC by the draft and, honestly, I hope Odorizzi and Heckathorne are knocking on the door as well.

Fiers to Huntsville is another possibility.

Further down the road, I'm hoping Dykstra pushes Gennett to A+ (or SS http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif). I also think Green, Gamel, and Gindl could all be ready for a bump by July. With Jeffress and Adams due back soon, there will likely be some shuffling as well.

I am having a hard time keeping track of Chris Dennis versus Khris Davis for the T Rats, throw in Kentrail Davis when looking at the nightly box scores and it gets really confusing for the K Davis. If I have learned one thing in my time in life it is to never trust a man with 2 first names.

Final: Wisconsin 9, Quad Cities 5

Wisconsin gets offensive in win

Chris Mehring/TimberRattlers.com

DANVENPORT,

IA – The Wisconsin Timber Rattler offense erupted for nine runs on 14

hits to defeat the Quad Cities River Bandits 9-5 Monday at Modern

Woodmen

park. D’Vontrey Richardson, Joey Paciorek, and Pete Fatse each had

three hits for the victors. Chris Dennis hit his fourth homer of the

season to provide some insurance that Wisconsin would need. Richardson,

Dennis, Khris Davis, and Sean Halton each drove in a pair of runs for

the

Rattlers.

Halton gave

the Rattlers (5-7) a 1-0 lead with an RBI single in the top of the

second

inning. Later in the frame, Richardson put the Rattlers up 2-0 with

another RBI single.

Wisconsin

padded their lead with three more runs in the top of the fourth inning.

Halton drove in his second run of the game with a single. Later in the

inning,

an error on a groundball off the bat of Michael Marseco scored another

run. Next, Richardson collected his third hit of the game, an RBI

triple

that sent Marseco home and the Rattlers were up 5-0.

The River

Bandits (9-3) loaded the bases against Wisconsin starter Nick Bucci

with

no outs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Frederick Parejo sent a

popup

down the third base line in fair territory. The infield fly rule was

called for an automatic out. Bucci had the ball pop out of his mitt and

the runners on second and third ran to the next base. Niko Vasquez, the

runner at third, did not budge. He wound up just walking off the field

and – after much discussion between the umpires and both managers –

there was a ruling of two outs on the play. Bucci ended the inning with

a

strikeout.

Quad Cities again

loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the fifth. Bucci gave up

a

sacrifice fly to Ryan Jackson and was replaced by reliever Andre

Lamontagne.

The right-hander promptly walked the first batter he faced to reload the

bases.

But, he got the next batter to ground into an inning ending 6-4-3 double

play

to keep the Rattlers in front 5-1.

The bats

padded the lead in the top of the sixth. Khris Davis cracked a two-out,

two-run

double to left-center. Dennis was next and he crushed a two-run homer

to

right-center. Dennis has homered in two straight games.

Wisconsin

would need those runs.

Del Howell

came on to pitch the bottom of the seventh and loaded the bases with two

outs on

a pair of walks and a single. Howell got the second out. But, Devin

Shepherd laced an opposite field homer to right-center for a grand slam

and the

River Bandits cut into the lead to make the score 9-5.

Howell would

work a scoreless eighth inning. Hiram Burgos retired the River Bandits

quietly

– and in order – in the ninth to finish off the victory.

The Rattlers

return home Tuesday night to start a six-game homestand. The first game

features Damon Krestalude (1-0, 2.00) as the starting pitcher for the

Timber

Rattlers. Cedar Rapids will counter with lefty Patrick Corbin (2-0,

2.08).

Wisconsin box score

Scooter Gennett was 0-4 with a

walk, and Cameron Garfield was

1-5. Great to see Richardson bust out a little. Bucci didn't have the best day, walking five and allowing four hits in 4.1 innings while only striking out two, but, as MH mentioned, he Houdini'd his way out of most of it and only allowed one run. Tough, tough beginning to the season for Howell. Burgos has only pitched one inning in each of his last two games, which seems like a waste.

Wisconsin play-by-play

I'm glad Chris explained the double play in the 4th, because this was blowing my mind:

  • Frederick Parejo pops into double play, pitcher Nicholas
Bucci to catcher Cameron Garfield. Niko Vasquez out at home on the
throw. Matthew Adams to 3rd on the throw. Devin Shepherd to 2nd.

Halton was thrown out at home on Paciorek's double for the first out of the 4th, much to Bill Schroeder's consternation, I'm sure.

That infield fly rule play has to be one of the weirdest I've seen in person. First, Bucci doesn't yield when Paciorek tries to call him off. Then, after it dropped, no one seems to remember the infield fly was in effect. The Rattlers throw home to get the "force," the Bandit runners run to try to avoid being "forced," and the guy at third, thinking he's out, trots into the dugout. Then the Rattlers tagged every single runner on the bases and, after time was called, left the field thinking they'd gotten a triple play (I'm still not sure where they thought the third out came from). I sat there for a minute trying to figure out how to score it before finally writing "out" and leaving it at that.

It was interesting to see Howell pitch. You can kind of see why he is as highly touted as he is (he made the one lefty he faced look pretty foolish), but the results just aren't there. The at bat that killed him was two before the grand slam when he got up 0-2 before nibbling his way into a walk.

Bucci looked great the first three innings, completely in control. Then the wheels started coming off. There was a definite difference.

The offense looked great. Even the outs were often hit hard (Khris Davis had a couple in particular). While he has struggled so far this year, it seemed that Sean Halton managed to work the count to 3-1 or 3-2 in almost every at bat the past two days. Hopefully that bodes well for him. Fatse and Richardson also looked pretty impressive.

Other thoughts after seeing the last two games of the series:

Garfield looks much more comfortable and in control behind the plate than McCraw or Kemp did when the Rattlers came here last year. He impressed me.

I wonder if Gennett playing shortstop the last two games might be a sign that a Cutter Dykstra call-up might be coming fairly soon. I guess they could just be working on versatility, but had he played short before the last two games?

Finally, it's good to have a Brewers affiliate in the Midwest League so I can see them a couple times a year. Looking forward to their next series in the Quad-Cities.

Those are great observations. I'm glad Howell at least 'looks' ok. That's also a very positive report on Garfield's D.

How did Burgos look? Any velocity reports on our guys? Thanks so much for the report.

Burgos looked solid. I don't remember him producing a ton of swings and misses in his inning, but none of the three outs were line shots either.

No velocity reports. Either the stadium gun or the display was not working (although I remember it rarely nudging above 85 at any game I was at last year, so I wouldn't have put much faith in it anyway) and I wasn't sitting close enough to the guys with the stalker guns to spy.

Open MIC to stadium noise on the Stars broadcast again, they certainly have had a tough go for the 2 weeks here. I'll keep recording, if there is an interview I'll have it posted later tonight.
