2010 NHL Playoffs

burniebrewer
I really thought they were gonna score on those 3 consecutive PPs in the third. They were all over the offensive zone, just seemed like a matter of time.

Is their offense based on Weber driving slap shots and hoping for rebounds? There wasn't much of an interior passing/skating game, especially on those PPs. I only got to see parts of every game, so I could be wrong.

It's really hard for me to watch games for them. I've seen like five before the playoffs. They were on Versus once and an alternate FSN channel that shows Wild games, so I caught them on there, but it's not enough for me to know what they do on offense or anything. Patric Hornqvist was their leading goal scorer and he scores his goals by standing in front of the net and getting deflections and rebounds. To me it looks like a lot of shots come from Weber, Suter and Hamhuis and they just try to create a bunch of traffic in front hoping the goalie can't see the puck which opens up rebound oppurtunities.

I'm hoping they can get Radulov back from Russia and Colin Wilson progresses, because their offense is horrid.

A part of me wanted to see the Caps win so the Hawks could potentially meet up with them and smash Ovi's already smashed face into the boards a half dozen times.

There is now a single seed 1-8 left in the playoffs.

1 seed = San Jose

2 seed = Chicago

3 seed = Vancouver

4 seed = Pittsburgh

5 seed = Detroit

6 seed = Boston

7 seed = Philadelphia

8 seed = Montreal

Apparently Tony Kornheiser called Alex Ovechkin the "Tracy McGrady of the NHL."

Ouch

BTW I am loving Joe Pavelski tearing it up for the Sharks! Gotta love a Wisconsin kid, a Badger, kicking some in the pros!

More Badgers in the same game! Heatley scores, now Rafalski scores. What a night for badgers!

I loved how the announcers of the Sharks/Wings game got a kick out of all of the ex Badgers playing. There was a point where Pavelski passed it to Heatley (or the other way around...don't exactly remember) and then Rafalski was the next person to touch the puck. After that, they said Eaves' son plays for the Red Wings too.

That Canucks Hawks game last night was a lot of fun. Luongo stopped like four breakaways. That dude is awesome. He was the difference between a one goal loss (plus an empty netter) and a three goal loss.

As a Blackhawks fan, I should be rooting against SJ, but Detroit=Cubs in my eyes, so I'll take on the Sharks if it means buh-bye to the Wings.

What a shame that the Red Wings are gone. (/blue)

The future looks great with Howard in net, but for now...bye.

And then there was another game 7. Jaroslav Halak and Mike Cammalleri have been absolutely amazing for the Habs. I know it's early, but I'm predicting the Sharks will beat the Habs for the Stanley Cup.

Blackhawks win! Niemi has looked real solid. Hopefully he keeps it up against SJ.

I'll be rooting for Montreal tomorrow. Be nice to get some new blood in the Finals.

I've been concerned about Niemi since he became starter and for whatever reason, he still scares me, but he's the one who carry them to the Finals.

I'm with you on Montreal. Should be some fun games tonight.

Down go the Pens! Isn't that amazing with the Habs as an 8 seed knocking down both the Caps and the Pens, both going the full 7 games? It also shows that not only is winning the Stanley Cup tough, repeating as champs is even tougher.

After tonight, does anyone want to disagree that the cup is the Hawks/Sharks series winner to lose? I cannot see an Eastern confrence team slowing them down, including the Habs, who have already gone thru two very tough 7 game series......Any thoughts?

Has an 8th seed ever made it to the Finals?

The last 8 seed to make it to the finals was the Edmonton Oilers in 2006. The teams they had to beat were the Wings (bad memories for me), the Sharks, and the Ducks. The Carolina Hurricanes ended up beating them for the Cup. Don't know if it has been done before that, at least since the current playoff format has been in place since 1994. The North Stars had the worst regular season record of playoff teams in 1991 and made the finals, but that was under the Campbell / Wales divisional playoff format.

So long Pens/Crosby! Very happy to see them out.
While I share these sentiments, I argue with myself about what's good for the future of the game.

Personally, I don't like Crosby, but he's the new face of the game and having him out hurts the NHL...and as a huge fan, I am all for any prosperity the league can experience.

First and foremost, I want hockey to be as popular as possible.

Judging strictly off talent, the winner of the Western finals should win it all. But you can't compare talent with the drive to win the Stanley Cup. There is always someone that wants it more. This is what makes these playoffs the best there is.

On paper, the Caps and Pens should have absolutely destroyed the Habs. Ovie and company have been an offensive powerhouse all year, but Halak put a stop to them. Crosby and Malkin are two talented players, but Cammalleri and Gionta have been just about as good. Regarding Crosby, I agree with burnie, he is talented, does a great job representing the NHL, and makes it more popular, but I just don't like him. As long as it brings in fans, I'm ok with him though.

Go Sharks and all their all ex-badgers. I still see the Sharks over the Habs.

And today is why the NHL playoffs are so great. Flyers come back from being down 3-0 and win the series 4-3. The reason I point this out is that today they were also down 3-0 early in game seven and come back to win 4-3. Talk about irony.

So we got a #1/#2 clash in the West and a #7/#8 clash in the East. Has there ever been something like this before?
