2010 NHL Playoffs

Heard a stat today that almost 50% of 7 seeds have beaten 2 seeds in the NHL playoffs. Not sure how far back that goes.

The #6 and 7 seeds are doing quite well to date in the first round:

#6's Boston and LA are both up 2-1 and playing game 4 at home tonight

#7's Nashville (up 2-1) and Philly (up 3-1) both lead their series'.

Even the 8 seeds are doing well. Montreal is down 2-1 to the Caps but choked away game 2 when they had a three goal lead and the Avs and Sharks are tied 2-2 with the last three games going to overtime.

It's why the NHL playoffs are much better than the NBA playoffs. Sure, there might be a good series or two in the NBA playoffs, but you can pretty much pencils in the Conference Finals teams before the season even starts. You can't do that in the NHL.

Chicago, the city, the cab driving-beating players, their lunkheaded goon fans, and everything about that swirling pile of excrement and arrogant jass ackery can thoroughly bite me, pound sand, and get bent.

I would say the same exact thing about Washington and its goon players. Starting with that Ivan Drago wanna-be #8.

And then there was game seven! Awesome win for the Coyotes especially when they are beating the Redwings. It is about time their power play started to work after it hasn't been successful since the first game. Once again the NHL provided a nice alternative to watching the Brewers get shelled. Now the Kings and Canucks face off at 8. Go Kings to force another game 7!

Is it wrong for me to admit that I've been a Red Wing fan since 1991 when I first was able to watch hockey? I know they are the like the Yankees in baseball but I loved me some Stevie Y.

edit. I was also a huge Quebec fan but when they moved to Colorado and then started to challenge my Wings, I had to pick between my #1 and my #2, but I'll always hold a special place for Sakic as well. I just hated Claude Lemieux so much I couldn't bring myself to root for the Avs anymore, he was my Cubs in baseball, but all rolled into a single guy.

Oh really? I didnt realize that....... And I like it! Thanks for pointing that out!

What I dont get is that Pittsburgh is the #4, in a traditional bracket they would in the second round get the #1. (Washington)

Doe the NHL re-seed? If so, does that make them the only league to do that

Yep, the NHL re-seeds.

I don't know how anyone could root for a Chicago team and still sleep at night. Just seems really lame and pathetic.

Well, since you asked:

1) NHL '94 dropped when I was in 6th grade. Roenick was sick.

2) Best uniforms in hockey.

3) Pat Foley.

4) Many former Badgers, from Chelios to Burish.

5) Wayne Campbell, Garth Algar and Glen, the manager of Mikita's Donuts.

6) Original Six team

7) Ed Belfour's mask

8) Standing and cheering at the top of your lungs during the national anthem. Every sports team should do this.

I'm just happy that the franchise has been resurrected after years of neglect. Bill Wirtz was an awful owner. His son and the new team president have done an outstanding job marketing the team, getting people excited again, and (most importantly) showing the games on TV!

I think a potential Hawks v. Caps/Flyers/Penguins/Canadiens/Bruins finals would be really, really good for the NHL. I'd rather see the Blackhawks win than some Sun Belt team with limited fan interest.

If Wisconsin had an NHL team I'd root for them. Since they don't I root for the Hawks. I do not possess an inferiority complex just because I grew up in Milwaukee.

Nope, i am in the exact same boat(same year actually). Yes, they are like the Yankees of baseball NOW, but when we started watching them, they hadn't won a stanley cup since '55, only had 2 division titles since '37 and had never won a conference championship. Heck, the Red Wings consistently draft very well, and are always competitive and i will love em up until the day Wisconsin gets an NHL team.

I hate the Red Wings and Blackhawks.

Preds and Admirals eliminated on the same night. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif

Felt bad for Pekka, great series from him to hold down a great Chicago offense. Nashville's offense is pathetic. Dekanich had a great game and series against Chicago as well, much like Nashville save for two games, Milwaukee's offense was pathetic.

I have a deep rooted hatred of the Cubs. Beyond that, I'm fine with Chicago teams (probably helps that I don't like the Packers).

I became a Blackhawks fan as a youngster while living in Milwaukee. I've always listened to sports on the radio when I went to bed and the Blackhawks filled the void on nights when there were no Bucks games.

I had really hoped Milwaukee would get an NHL team and when that day never came, I stuck with my childhood team.

Love that list posted above, especially Pat Foley, what a great hockey announcer.

Nashville's offense is pathetic.
I really thought they were gonna score on those 3 consecutive PPs in the third. They were all over the offensive zone, just seemed like a matter of time.

Is their offense based on Weber driving slap shots and hoping for rebounds? There wasn't much of an interior passing/skating game, especially on those PPs. I only got to see parts of every game, so I could be wrong.

I'm not a fan of the Red Wings or the Hawks either. But I will also extend that hate to the Pens. It is really hard to root for teams that have won a the SC recently. Also, Sid is no OV when it comes to hitting.

I'm surprised more people around here don't follow my favorite team, the Wild. Especially since FSN picked up quite a few of their games this year. I think that my love for this team may have rubbed off from my old Minnesotan roommate though.

I'm excited about the two games sevens. Go Coyotes and Caps!
