"Massive fireball" last night in the Midwest

ttsather

Anyone else outside to see this last night?

I was with some friends outside at The Malt House in Madison (a must-visit in Madison, when you're here) and I had my back to it, but I turned around after seeing a big flash out of the corner of my eye and hearing several big pops and booms. The only glimpse I got was a few shards of, presumably, a meteor that were just flickering out. It looked almost like a big firework in the distance that hadn't exploded properly.

This morning on Chanel 4 (Milwaukee), as they talked about this, they showed video of some small brush fire and tress that looked like they were broken and smoldering. Where did this land?

Here is a link to the video from Channel 4 that I refered to in the post above. The article that goes with it mentions the broken "burning" trees towards the end of the story. If you click on the videos, there are still pictures of this at about the 0:24 mark.

I read an article in the Trib this morning that said all sorts of "meteor" rock collectors are descending on southwestern WI to collect rocks from farmers.
