2010-04-15 Brewers (Suppan) at Cubs (Zambrano), 1:20 PM CDT [Brewers win, 8-6]

Great work for two innings by Villanueva to bridge the gap to Hoffman. Suppan pitched slightly better than I expected he would, which isn't saying much. Considering he threw a lot of balls he didn't hurt himself too badly with walks, which could be encouraging. He Loopered his way to a no decision since the offense put up 5 runs while he was out there. Regardless of the results, I'll take a win any day.

Everybody, calm down. Bob Brenly said that Corey Hart is a better right fielder than Jody Gerut. Therefore, we should all be happy that Hart was out there, or it would have been worse.
The most positive thing I am willing to say about Ken Macha right now is at least we didn't hire Bob Brenly.

the only thing I got today from watching the game off the DVR when I got home was the way the game reminded me of the end of "Three Amigos" with everyone wearing the same jersey. You watch the game in fast forward and say, "all right! A hit by #42! Hey, another hit by #42!! What the heck is going on here? These #42's are all over the place!!!!" It just reminded me of the end of that movie for some reason. Made my wife laugh, at least.

So, the only thing that baffled me today, is why didn't they leave Gomez in the game for defense in the 9th? He's infinitely better than Edmonds or Hart out there.

I was at the game today, and I had a fantastic time. I was a little worried with the pitching match-up that I'd be driving three hours each way to see the Brewers get shelled, but Suppan was better than expected with the wind blowing out, not good mind you, but kept us in it, and luckily Zambrano was off his game as well. Wrigley gets ragged on a lot here, but I loved it. I took my dad for his birthday, neither one of us had ever been to Wrigley before. The atmosphere in and around the stadium and surrounding neighborhood was so different than a game at Miller Park. Not that I'm ragging on Miller Park, I love our stadium, I think each are great in their own ways. We had lunch at a bar across the street from Wrigley, and every single Cub fan that talked to us in and out of the stadium was as nice as could be. We had excellent seats right behind home plate, and with that, the weather, and the Brewer victory, it was as perfect a day as I could have hoped for. If you've never been to Wrigley, I highly recommend it, it's someplace you have to visit at least once if you're a baseball fan, it just has a different feel of other ballparks.

If you are going to try to judge a pitcher on one game pitched going by ERA is about the absolute worst way you could go about it. Suppan pitched ok, not great but ok. If he gives that kind of effort every game we'll be ok and his ERA will be in that 4.75-5.25 range that most expect.
Again, if anyone is interested, I am looking to go large that Suppan does not finish the season with an ERA under 5.25. The Cubs went easy on him today. If most people are expecting a 4.75-5.25 ERA range, I should be able to find some takers for this, right?

had my first wrigley experience yesterday and it went better than expected. a couple annoying cubs fans in our section. I was very upset that i was told by an usher that I had to sit down while clapping and standing during the final out.

I would have no problem with a 4.75-5.25 ERA if I didn't think we had better pitchers.

It seems that with the tying run at the plate, fans of both teams would have wanted to be standing and clapping during what turned out to be the final out.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

well that was before hoffman gave up the hit to put the tying run on. Overall I was amazed on how cubs fans in general only clap and cheer after something happens and not before when there are runners on, the starter has 2 strikes etc...
