"Bush at only 77 pitches? Why on earth would you pull him?"

He was leading off the inning.

He gave them 6 good innings already.

He did go down with an injury last year.

Coffey and Hawkins have been pretty good in the 7th and 8th innings.

I see the point, but he was pitching good and only 77 pitches. But it worked out so its all good.

How many times has Dave Bush pitched very well, only to lose it after staying in one inning too long? It was the right move even if Gerut made an out.

You don't have an Adam Wainwright. Easily the best gentlemen in all of sports. You don't have the amount of real good old American men like the Cardinals do. Holliday, Wainwright, Skip, Berkman those 4 guys are incredible people

So will this always be the right move, or just for today?

They are on the road, only ahead 3-2 at the time, and need a win early in the season.

Given the situations that jhart pointed out and the fact that Bush has often pitched well only to be roughed up in one inning, the decision was the correct one. That's all I said.

I can see what your saying, but I think between his spot coming up first, it being early in the season and his injury problems last year are good enough reasons for it being the right move in this game.
