Not sure why Macha wouldn't want more lefties in the lineup today against Wells. Last year left handers had a .805 OPS v. Wells and right handers had a .571 OPS v. him.

edit: grammar

You don't have an Adam Wainwright. Easily the best gentlemen in all of sports. You don't have the amount of real good old American men like the Cardinals do. Holliday, Wainwright, Skip, Berkman those 4 guys are incredible people

He clearly doesn't want to take Hart out of the lineup right now, and Gomez hasn't played in a few days.... Replacing one of those two would be the chance to play a lefty. I suppose he could have given Escobar the day off and played Counsell.

Boy, does this lineup fall off a cliff after McGehee.

I feel like Escobar has had good at-bats overall, despite the lack of hits. Without looking at pitch stats, he seems like he's been more selective than expected. He has also hit several balls very hard, but right at people. I think he'll be fine in the long run.

I've been impressed with Escobar too, even though his improved plate discipline still has a ways to go. Guy can hit the ball hard.

Whatever happened to the idea of hitting the pitcher 8th again? Macha brought it up early in spring but we never heard any more of it.

McCalvy ask him about batting the pitcher 8th and he more or less said that he is not considering it anymore.
