Nice to see Arnett get some publicity on MiLB.com. He is the headliner for today's preview on the home page. Followed by stories of Strasburg's and Chapman's debuts. Hopefully he has as much success as them... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

Also, old habits die hard... I just glanced at Beloit's standings instead of Wisconsin's...

I thought the book on Arnett was that he got stronger velocity wise as the game progressed?

Unless something at Time Warner Field has changed the stadium gun is regularly 2-3 MPH slow as I highlighted in the link reports last year.

6 errors for the Rattlers after 4 innings of defensive work. Yikes.
From the Rattlers' Twitter: "Weird play in scoreless, hitless 4th for Arnett. Clinton runner almost doubled off first, but throw

went into the stands and he was awarded two bases.

He jogged near second, but cut across the grass on

his way to third. Rattlers appealed and the runner was out for the 3rd

out."

Well we know Arnett was working around 94 in Helena last year per Steve Wendt, but if this is another 6-8 MPH drop in velocity I may have to quit following the minors.

Final: Clinton 7, Wisconsin 4

Tough debut for Arnett

Chris Mehring/TimberRattlers.com

GRAND CHUTE,

WI – The Clinton LumberKings did not welcome Eric Arnett to the Midwest

League with open arms. Clinton scored five times in the first two

innings

off the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers starting pitcher and went on to 7-4

victory. The Wisconsin defense did not help the cause as they were

charged with six errors in Monday’s game at Time Warner Cable Field.

The LumberKings

(3-2) made Arnett most unwelcome in his first Midwest League start.

Clinton

scored four times on four hits in the first inning. The big hit was a

three-run homer by Kalian Sams that put the LumberKings up 4-0.

Wisconsin’s

defense committed two errors on the first two balls put in play in the

top of

the second inning. A bunt single by Danny Carroll let Clinton load the

bases. An RBI grounder by Nick Franklin plated the run that made the

score 5-0.

Clinton

starting pitcher Taylor Stanton retired the first 10 Timber Rattlers he

faced with

a minimal amount of pitches on his way to his first win of the season.

Arnett left

after reaching his pitch limit in the top of the fifth inning. The #1

pick of the Brewers from the 2009 draft went 4-1/3 innings, allowed five

runs

(four earned) on five hits, hit two batters, struck out three, and was

charged with

the loss.

The Timber

Rattlers (3-2) got to Stanton in the bottom of the sixth. D’Vontrey

Richardson walked and Scooter Gennett singled. Cameron Garfield’s RBI

grounder knocked in Richardson. Then, Chris Dennis lined a two-run

homer

to right to pull Wisconsin to within 5-3. Stanton would get the final

out

to get out of the inning. Stanton allowed three runs on five hits and

struck

out three in the game.

The

LumberKings added insurance runs in both the eighth and ninth innings. A

two out RBI single by Shaver Hansen in the eighth made the score 6-3.

The

sixth Timber Rattlers error of the game allowed a LumberKings run to

score in the

top of the ninth.

Wisconsin

loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the ninth. They scored

one

run on a grounder by Franklin Romero, Jr, but that was all the Rattlers

could

manage in the bottom of the ninth.

Wisconsin and

Clinton conclude their three game series on Tuesday night. Maverick

Lasker is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Kyle

Heckathorn, a supplemental first round pick of the Milwaukee Brewers in

the

2009 draft, is scheduled to pitch in relief for Wisconsin. Clinton will

send lefty Jimmy Gillheeney (0-1, 7.36) to the mound.

Wisconsin box score

Gennett continues to be awesome, walking once and going 2-3. Dennis and Sean Halton also had two hits. Richardson was hitless, but it's nice to see him take a walk. He struck out twice, but those are only his third and fourth K's of the season, which means that he's at least putting the ball in play. I'll take that as an reason for optimism, though time will whether he's getting unlucky or just making weak contact. As mentioned, the Rattlers' defense was awful today, with Gennett and Carlos George "leading" the way with two errors each; see the T-Rats' official Twitter for more details on the many fielding lowlights and scoring changes. As for Arnett, as mentioned in the thread, his velocity was down from last year, though whether it was down a lot or a little depends on how accurate the stadium's radar gun is. Hopefully it was just the cold weather.

Wisconsin play-by-playAfter the disastrous first, Arnett actually did pretty well to get out of the second with only one additional run allowed:

Clinton Top 2nd

  • Steven Baron reaches on fielding
    error by shortstop Carlos George.
  • Gabriel Noriega reaches on
fielding error by second baseman Ryan Gennett. Steven Baron to 2nd.
  • Daniel
Carroll singles on a bunt ground ball to pitcher Eric Arnett. Steven
Baron to 3rd. Gabriel Noriega to 2nd.
  • Nick Franklin
grounds out, second baseman Ryan Gennett to first baseman Sean Halton.
Steven Baron scores. Gabriel Noriega to 3rd. Daniel Carroll to
    2nd.
  • Vincent Catricala hit by pitch.
  • Dennis Raben
grounds into double play, second baseman Ryan Gennett to shortstop
Carlos George to first baseman Sean Halton. Vincent Catricala out at
    2nd.

Chris, since you are reading the site... velocity reports are a very good thing, in fact a real pal would get the stalker gun reading the pitchers in the stands whenever possible!
