Mass....I wanted to thank you and the rest of the team for all the work to get these thread's teed up with information and links, and then backfill with news stories and commentary. It's easily one of my favorite parts of the baseball season.

I know this is "off topic," but seems less intrusive than creating a new thread somewhere.

It's Bowman time finally! I'm also interested to see how Scarpetta fairs today. I'm going to be honest about Cody, I like his CB but I'm still hoping he adds some velocity to his fastball as he matures at least getting to where he's consistently hitting 91,92 MPH, where Yo usually works. I'd feel better about him as a prospect if he could consistently stay over 90 MPH, his FB velocity is the main reason I think some around here are a tad too high on his potential, and it's why I listed him as a back of the rotation starter when I answered that pitching projection question earlier in the year. He's not a power arm like Rogers, Arnett, Heckathorn, or Peralta, his velocity is very average for a MLB pitcher at this point in time, and every extra tick will help.

The Brewers really need to do something about the defensive issues up and down the minor league system. Huntsville has another error in the 1st, this time on Lo Cain, the Stars have yet to play a clean game this season.

That Huntsville lineup could really do some damage this year. They are stacked 1 - 5.

Final: Daytona 10, Brevard County 5

Brevard County box score

Cody Scarpetta had a disappointing season debut, walking six in 2.1 innings en route to allowing four runs. His relief, Lucas Luetge, turned in a similar performance, letting in five runs on seven hits in three innings. Evan Frederickson's move to the bullpen doesn't appear to have done anything to help his control, as he walked two and threw a wild pitch while allowing a run in 1.2 innings. All those runs were too much for the Manatees offense to overcome, though Erik Miller and Juan Sanchez each doubled and had two hits, and Matt Cline walked twice to go with his single. Kentrail Davis finally had a bad day, going 0-4 with two strikeouts and committing a throwing error.

Brevard County play-by-play

Daytona batted around in the 3rd:

  • Kyler Burke walks.
  • Josh Vitters doubles (2) on a line
drive to left fielder Brock Kjeldgaard. Kyler Burke scores.
  • With
Ryne White batting, wild pitch by Cody Scarpetta, Josh Vitters to 3rd.
  • Ryne White grounds out, second baseman Sergio Miranda to first
    baseman Anderson De La Rosa.
  • Marwin Gonzalez walks.
  • Pitcher
Change: Lucas Luetge replaces Cody Scarpetta.
  • Smailey Borges
    walks. Marwin Gonzalez to 2nd.
  • Mark Reed singles on a line
drive to left fielder Brock Kjeldgaard. Josh Vitters scores.
Marwin Gonzalez to 3rd. Smailey Borges to 2nd.
  • David Macias
out on a sacrifice fly to center fielder Kentrail Davis. Marwin
    Gonzalez scores.
  • Brett Jackson singles on a line drive to
center fielder Kentrail Davis. Smailey Borges scores. Mark Reed to
    2nd.
  • DJ LeMahieu singles on a ground ball to right fielder
Erik Miller. Mark Reed scores. Brett Jackson to 2nd.
  • Kyler
    Burke strikes out swinging.

Final: Nashville 4, Iowa 2

Nashville box score

A four-game sweep of the Cubs sounds pretty awesome, right? Well, it was only the Iowa Cubs, but it's still nice. Chris Waters was effective in his first start in the organization, and Tim Dillard, Zach Braddock, and Chris Smith combined for four scoreless innings of relief to lock down the win. Brendan Katin homered again, which isn't new, but also drew another walk, which is. Adam Heether also homered as part of his 2-4 day. Eric Farris finally got his first hit of the year. On the downside, Angel Salome didn't play, the second straight game he hasn't started, which is...frustrating.

Nashville play-by-play

Braddock's inning:

Iowa Bottom 8th

  • Pitcher Change: Zach Braddock
    replaces Tim Dillard, batting 9th.
  • James Adduci strikes out
    swinging.
  • Darwin Barney singles on a fly ball to left fielder
    Trent Oeltjen.
  • Micah Hoffpauir grounds into a force out, first
baseman Erick Almonte to shortstop Luis Cruz. Darwin Barney out at
    2nd. Micah Hoffpauir to 1st.
  • Jason Dubois singles on a
ground ball to center fielder Norris Hopper. Micah Hoffpauir to 2nd.
  • Offensive Substitution: Pinch runner Sam Fuld replaces Jason
    Dubois.
  • Bryan LaHair flies out to left fielder Trent Oeltjen
    in foul territory.

Wow, Caleb Gindl. 4-5 with a homer. He's looking taller every day.

Until today, it looked like they were going to alternate Dennis and Halton at first. I really hope they keep doing that.

Chad Anderson reports that Kintzler is throwing 92 out of the pen. Not great, but legit.

Cain just made a nice diving catch.

Final: Huntsville 5, Chattanooga 2

Huntsville box score

Another great game for the top of the order, this time highlighted by Caleb Gindl's 4-5 performance, including a solo homer. Jonathan Lucroy and Taylor Green were each 2-5, Green with a double, and Lorenzo Cain and Brett Lawrie were each 1-4, Cain adding a HBP and Lawrie tallying a sac fly. The formerly OBP-challenged Lee Haydel has walked in three straight game. Michael Bowman was having a really nice debut through four innings before getting touched up a bit in the 5th, but his overall line is still quite good: 5 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 6 K. Brandon Kintzler, showcasing a low-90s fastball, picked up an easy first save of the year.

Huntsville play-by-play

Cain made a nice diving catch, his second in as many days, in the 9th to help out Kintzler.

Odorizzi was warming up, but now Robinson's on the mound?

Hope nothing got tweaked - I'd like to think they're just saving him so he can pitch 5 innings next game.

(can't spell)

There he is.. :-) feels like I've been waiting far too long for this one
