Lineup according to TH.

2B Rickie Weeks

CF Carlos Gomez

LF Ryan Braun

1B Prince Fielder

RF Jim Edmonds

3B Case McGehee

C George Kottaras

SS Alcides Escobar

LHP Doug Davis

I just don't understand batting Edmonds (Diego) 5th, especially with the two games McGehee has put up.

Ya I'm not sure about that move either....... (Diego in the 5th)

Can someone fill me in on what the strategy would be in doing that? I'm not figuring out a reason to justify him 5th and I'm all for Edmonds being in there against good righties. I'm glad Hart had a few good AB's last night and hope he continues to do so.

I'm pretty pumped to see Kottaras in there. I'm also glad this is a day game because I don't know if I could stay up until 11 with DD pitching tonight http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

I thought I remember "Gramps" saying a few days ago that Edmonds(Diego) would get this start because he has a history of hitting the tar out of Cook.
This is fine rationale to start him over Hart (even though Edmonds hasn't faced Cook since 2008). I was referring to him batting 5th behind Prince, again.

If Diego produces for the Brewers in games that count, I'll be counting on the collective photoshop skillz of Brewerfan nation to go to work on images like this:

At least with Cook we won't have to worry about Diego not being able to catch up to a mid-90's fastball. Cook has owned the Brewers, though, so my hopes are less than high. Hopefully they can jump on him early.

This is the last time this year that I will complain about the lineup, but I have no idea what Ken Macha is doing.

Diego apparently hit Cook pretty well sometime back in the 17th century (while exploring America for the Spanish Empire?), so he's starting. That's fine. Hitting Diego after the only other lefty in the lineup makes no sense, particularly when on Monday the Rockies brought lefties in to face Prince, and they completely neutralized Diego.

Colorado's lineup:

1. Gonzalez LF

2. Fowler CF

3. Tulowitzki SS

4. Giambi 1B

5. Olivo C

6. Stewart 3B

7. Mora 2B

8. Spilborghs LF

9. Cook P

Anyone want to explain the Diego nickname to someone who is too lazy to dig through the previous IGTs?

You don't have an Adam Wainwright. Easily the best gentlemen in all of sports. You don't have the amount of real good old American men like the Cardinals do. Holliday, Wainwright, Skip, Berkman those 4 guys are incredible people

From my post in Tuesday's IGT:

I would like to call attention to Tuesday's episode of Triple Play

Trivia Shame. The choices were Jody Gerut, Jim Edmonds and Craig

Counsell. The clues were (1) His middle name is Diego; (2) He went to

Stanford; and (3) He hit a grand slam against the Cubs last season. The

hapless contestant guessed Jim Edmonds. FAIL.

I know not everyone

reads the media guide as much as I do, but if they'd give it a little

thought they'd realize that Jim Edmonds hit no grand slams in 2009.

Also, Jim Diego Edmonds? Please.

Then phxMILWfan replied:

I think we should call Jim Edmonds "Diego" all year. I'd enjoy it.
I agreed, and others appear to be following suit.

Well Kottaras is there today making balancing the lineup more difficult if you refuse to ph for anyone and are wedded to Gomez as #2. Still in general you want them to bring in a LOOGY to face Edmonds/Kotteras so you can counter it, not Fielder/Edmonds when you can't.

I was about to say Kottaras is a switch-hitter, but baseball-reference disagrees.

Anyway, yeah, you'd rather see the lefty come in against Diego/Kottaras than Prince/Diego. Of course, the opposing manager may not even bother to bring in a specialist in that instance, and if you really want to play games (and can burn the pinch-hitters), shuffle in Hart at that point, giving more RH focus, while still leaving a very LH bench.

That is hilarious. Our home fans are really on a roll in that trivia contest. Opening day it was just as bad, the hints involved the mystery player leading all rookies last year in RBI with 66. Only one player on the list saw significant time last year AND was a rookie.. Casey, obviously (no, i can't spell his last name!). The guy guessed Kottaras i think.
