Calling All Gardeners

ewizabeff

Ok, who gardens? How big is your garden? What do you grow? Are you a good enough cook to use it all?

We're starting our second year of a container-only garden. But, we're moving into our house at the end of May, so some of these containers may actually make it into the ground! I'll be spending the summer picking a spot for our garden, getting ride of the grass, tilling the dirt, and adding some compost from Growing Power. Seed-starting begins today, so I'll post some pics of our efforts later. I'd love to hear from other gardeners....I seem to remember Jamie having quite the growing operation in his basement a few years ago.

I've done more gardening with flowers and native plants than vegetables, but have been gardening for a while now and really enjoy it. As far as veggies (primarily tomatoes and hot peppers), I always have better luck starting the seeds outside...transplanting seedlings never works as well. And I buy little tomato plants, not seeds...they're pretty cheap and really take off of you plant them right. The tomatoes and peppers love it hot., the tomatoes love water.

Of course, general gardening basics = lots of sun, well-drained soil, use lots of compost. You mentioned Growing Power - that place kicks butt. Have you heard of Sweetwater Organics? Stemming from GP that's a cool aquaculture/aquaponics operation...something I'd love to start small scale here in Mount Horeb.

Have you considered a rain garden? Cool option for a flower garden that is low maintenance and is good for reducing stormwater runoff from your roof or driveway.

If you have any questions, let me know-

Good luck!
