Beloit Snappers could have new stadium by 2012

Invader3K

To be honest, with the economy down there right now, I'd be somewhat surprised if this happens so quickly; but if so, good for them.

Team owners say new Snappers stadium could open by 2012.

They seem optimistic, but do acknowledge the difficulties:

Conerton acknowledged the local economy is much different than it was

in 2002, when the attendance projections were first made. A new study

likely will be needed to refresh projected attendance figures.

"But our own attendance at Pohlman during this economic downturn

hasn't changed all that much," he said. "Snappers baseball continues to

be a relatively inexpensive form of entertainment.

"We know the economy is not the best right now, but it's going to get

better," he added. "The banks aren't lending right now, but it won't be

that way forever."

Construction would likely take between 12 and 15 months. Prior to

that, more time is needed for the financing and bidding portions of the

project.

"In reality, the window on having the stadium for April 2012 is

closing pretty quickly," he said. "In all likelihood, 2013 is a more

realistic goal."
