ALTERNATE 2002 All Star "The Meister" Bobblehead!!!

madgrad

I've obtained a few of the 2002 All-Star "The Meister" bobbles that appear to be an earlier version than the one so commonly found. It is different than the one I already have in my collection. Here are some pics comparing the two...

The differences I see between the two are obviously the base to start, which has beer suds on it. I found that the blister pack is molded to this specific version, which makes it more of an oval base. The next thing I noticed is that this version has an MLB logo on the back of the shirt. Also, there is a baseball on the top of the base (near the feet) and the clock on the front of Miler Park is not painted. On the front of Miller Park I also noticed that there is a piece below the retractable roof that is painted the same brick color as the walls which isn't evident on my other one. When I looked at the bottom of the bobble I noted another difference...there is no MBNA logo on the bottom as in the more popular version. Here are a few pics of these subtle differences...

I also noted one other thing...all of them that I received had a strap around the box that had the date and logo of the All-Star game printed on it. I don't know why there is this different version, but I think with this logo/date strap these may have been either given away at the 2002 All-Star game or were for sale exclusively at the game. All of the ones I have are numbered in the 2000's. Can anyone else confirm that they have this version of the bobble, and if so, what number it is out of 10,000? I found this to be very interesting!

I just looked at mine and took it off my bookshelf I can confirm I have the version with the beer suds/foam but mine did not come with the Allstar strap around the box I have seen that strap on boxes before though!!

The number of mine is #3,937 out of 10,000 I got mine maybe about two years ago off eBay somewhere in the $20 -$25 range if I remember correctly!!

There are two on eBay right now both without the suds/foam The #'s on these are 4,915 & 5,391

They must've switched over to a different base after a certain number. Don't know why, but my speculation is that the beer suds weren't kid friendly so they came up with a more appropriate base!

that's a pretty good assumption madgrad...i also wonder if it was cheaper to lose the suds? hmm, i'll have to keep my eye open for one of these, the suds make it look even better than the other version...im guessing there won't be much of a cost difference on ebay either.
