Mass Haas

Nashville outlasted Charlotte, 11-6. Brendan Katin turned in a

superb performance, clubbing two doubles and a home run, driving in five

runs. JR Hopf add three hits of his own, Johnny Raburn scored thrice,

and Lorenzo Cain drove in two and scored twice. Kameron Loe got the

start and went four scoreless. Chris Waters was touched up for five

runs in four innings of relief.

***

Nice outing from John Axford, and farewell to Shane Justis--this is the last time we'll see his name in a box score.

Birmingham doubled up Huntsville, 6-3. Steffan Wilson and Brett

Lawrie collected two hits each. Amaury Rivas pitched the first 3.1

innings and gave up three runs on three hits and two walks. Mike

McClendon, Nick Green, and Tim Dillard each pitched scoreless frames.

***

Good to see Lawrie back. Looks like Rivas got a little unlucky.

Brevard County came out on the wrong side of a 15-2 game against

Winston-Salem. Sergio Miranda was the lone bright spot for the

Manatees, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and two doubles. Cody Scarpetta,

Corey Frerichs, and Brandon Rapoza took the brunt of the damage on the

pitching side.

***

Scarpetta got roughed up, but 5/1 K/BB in 5 innings is fine with me. Idle thought: Brock Kjeldgaard's not going to have a very good year in Space Coast Stadium, is he?

Wisconsin roughed up Kannapolis, 9-2. The Timber Rattlers used an

extra-base hit barrage to sink the Intimidators. Chris Dennis and

Brent Dean slugged home runs, while Khris Davis, Joey Paciorek, and

Franklin Romero legged out triples, with Romero doing so twice. Nick

Bucci got the start and gave up two runs over five innings. Del Howell

was strong in relief, pitching four innings and making them scoreless.

I know alot of people were Suprised he lasted that long and were Happy the Brewers signed him. Do you think he will be used as a Starter.

I was also wondering when will the Minor league rosters become official.

They will be assigned today. Not sure when it will be released.

Nashville downed Tacoma, 7-4, in Tuesday's action. Erick Almonte

had a big day, going 4-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and two runs

scored. Brendan Katin had two hits and knocked in three. Marco Estrada

started and tossed three scoreless innings. Chris Cody was strong in

relief, pitching four scoreless frames.

Huntsville played West Tennessee to a 6-6 tie. Steffan Wilson

doubled and homered, while Chris Errecart homered, drove in two, and

scored twice to pace the Stars offense. Mark Rogers allowed one earned

run in 3.2 innings and struck out three.

High Desert knocked off Brevard County, 6-3. Wily Peralta pitched

the front five, allowing seven hits and four earned runs. Evan

Frederickson didn't allow a hit in his two innings, but walked four

batters and struck out three. Brock Kjeldgaard hit two doubles to lead

the offense.

***

7/1 K/BB from Peralta in five innings is what we like. Glad to see Frederickson has his control problems straightened out. Two of Mike Ramlow's three spring outings have been very strong; I hope they portend a great comeback season for the big lefty.

Wisconsin and Clinton tied 3-3. Franklin Romero hit a solo blast

and Kyle Dhanani chipped in with two base-hits. Maverick Lasker was

strong in his start, allowing no runs and only five hits over five

innings. Santo Manzanillo pitched two scoreless innings in relief.

***

Notice how Rolando Pascual's appearance wasn't highlighted? There's a reason for that. Upside: fully half of his outs were recorded via strikeout!

Katin not getting into big league camp is a sign of what the club thinks. Last year he had a pretty huge spring for them. Didn't he hit a grand slam and draw favorable reviews from the coaches?

Now this looks like a T-Rats box score from last year--pretty blah. Hopefully Eric Arnett dials it up once the season starts.

Solid games from Chuck Lofgren and the bottom of the Nashville order. It's just nice to see Corey Frerichs' and Wes Etheridge's names back in the box scores.

EDIT: In my rush to get out the door in time to make the Brewers game this afternoon, I didn't see that Etheridge got released. So much for that optimistic note I ended on.
