Looking for info about Miami, FL

I received an offer today to go to grad school at Florida International University in Miami. I'm not sure if I will accept and I plan on visiting before I make my decision. Hopefully I will have other offers to consider, but considering the economy, I am thrilled to get at least one.

However, I know absolutely nothing about Miami except for the minimal research that I've done on the school's meteorology program. I am most interested in finding out info about the school itself, the neighborhood, or any other relevant information for someone who could potentially be moving to Miami. Thanks!

I can't help you at all on Miami, but congratulations on the grad school offer. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

I know a little about the university. There are students from over 100 countries who attend the university. If you talk to four people you have an opportunity to talk to 4 people from different countries. The city has a heavy Latino population and my friends who live there say english is the second language. They love it there because they say it is like living in foreign country with the benefits of being in the US.

Not sure if that helps at all. All i know is the name of the university is very fitting. My wife and I looked at moving down there for wok a couple years back.

Thanks for the kind words guys.

Making the decision will be extremely difficult. I have heard nothing from the other 7 grad schools that I applied to, but I only have a few weeks to accept/decline this offer. I would hate to accept this offer and then get a better one in April--not to mention the whole logistics of visiting the place, potentially moving, etc. etc. Better than not having any decision to make though :-)
