Wandy Rodriguez loses in arby.

This is one of those situations where if they were allowed to pick the number between the two offers they probably would have. $7M seems like too much for Wandy given he still has another year of arbitration left. He has been hurt a lot over the past 3 seasons missing at least one start(and usually more than 1) 6 different times due to injuries. He has only pitched one full healthy season in the majors so far. His 3 year ERA is 3.70 which is good but not elite. I'd think if he repeats last year he gets a huge raise in his final arbitration season.

Hart gets 4.8 mil while averaging 0.95 wins the last two years. Rodriguez gets 5 mil while averaging 3.35 wins the last two years. I know its a simple way to look at it, but the difference in performance is pretty obvious while the difference in salaries is nonexistant.

Amazingly after a 14-12, 3.02 season, Rodriguez will earn just $875,000 more than Dave Bush who's never come close to the numbers Rodriguez put up last year. The arby system is indeed hard to fathom.

As Ennder points out, you have to look at all the variables involved in order to understand the system. The offers are the main variable. A guy who's worth $10 mil could end up getting paid league minimum if the number he submitted was $25 mil.
