Home Brewing.....Whats the action??

zingsheim
My friend is in the process of finishing his Tony Plush Pale Ale. He thinks it'll be ready for our next home game June 7th. My other friend is making labels with photoshop so he can bottle em up for his friends. Once that happens I'll see if I can scan a picture up for you guys.

I am not sure how much longer homebrew competitions will continue in Wisconsin. I believe they are technically illegal in Wisconsin. There have been 2 fairly recent events where a homebrew club meeting and a charity event involving homebrew were changed or cancelled. I can see a crackdown coming in the near future.

My understanding of the law is that you can only brew 100-200 gallons(depending on whether you have one or more adults living at your residence) and it can only be drank at the residence where it was produced.

I blame Wang.

Yeah it's been illegal for a long time, just as tailgating was illegal till a few years back. But the new administration at the state ATF is really active about it and have been jackwagons about it. A racine home brew competition was closed down via some what threats by the state ATF. The WHA (Wisconsin Homebrewers Association) is attempting to introduce some legislation that would change some of the local laws to allow serving of samples and competitions. It all comes down to the lack of tax stamps and how the man can't get their taste.

Haven't posted about homebrew for a while, so...

Currently worked my way through a couple Dunkelweizens I brewed in early spring. The first one turned out ok, but the second I would certainly call a "good beer". It's not perfect yet, but is certainly on the way to being something I brew every year.

Bottled a Kolsch last week.

Brewed a California Common last week.

American Barleywine will be fully carbonated tomorrow. Will sample a bottle right away and then put the rest of it away until Christmas.

Planning brewing a Best Bitter this weekend. I'll work up a starter tomorrow AM and brew Saturday morning.

I'm most excited about my Golden Strong Ale. Brewed it over a month ago and fermentation stalled due to cool basement temps. Roused the yeast, warmed the carboy, got the yeasties working hard again...and it's almost finished. Gravity was 1.016 last I checked. Aiming for 1.009. Tastes great already and that was a warm, uncarbonated sample from the hydrometer.

Northern Brewer is offering Lakefront clones as part of the Pro Brewer series. I want to get my hands on their Fixed Gear and IBA clones.

Looks like they also now have rye LME.
