R.I.P. Phil Harris--(Deadliest Catch)

Blancofan1

I want to make it perfectly clear that I understand this is a real person and that he is clearly more important than a TV show. I don't watch the show for suspense or anything like that, I just find it to be an interesting show. I just think it could have been handled differently. If say, at the start of the season or on these past episodes they put a screen up that said "in loving memory of Captain Phil Harris" or something like that. I certainly don't feel that they should be exploting the man and adding as much drama as possible. And I, too, am saddened to watch the events of his death - I think of my own dad and our relationship and the daugther that I have on the way and it's very difficult to watch. Just don't want my comments to come accross like I'm a monster and I'm just thinking about better TV or anything like that, it's not the case at all.

That beign said, they clearly ARE making money off of his death though, as the ratings have been through the roof for these episodes (out of their control, I know) and they are stretching his illness/death over 3-4 episodes, when in reality it was only about 10 days from his stroke to his passing.

Maybe I missed the episode when they told us, but to this point on Deadliest Catch - they haven't said yet that he ultimately dies. If they did, I apologize and retract my comments. We all know he died because we saw the news when it happened and they covered on the "After the Catch" but that's a different show. If you had your DVR set to record just Deadliest Catch and missed the news when he died - and all you did was watch Deadliest Catch, you would NOT know at this point that he dies, and that's my biggest issue I guess. If you were a casual viewer or just happened to flip the show on for the first time in the past month or two (or if you somehow missed the news that he died, which I will grant you, is probably not too many people), you would have no idea that he passes away and they most certainly would be "stringing you along" with the did he/didn't he make it.

I guess since nobody else sees a problem with it at all, that I must be in the vast minority on this one, so if we can all just agree to let it drop, that's perfectly fine with me, just wanted to let you guys know where my thought process was on this.
