Toronto as a trading partner for pitching? Update: Jays love Lawrie (naturally...)

isnt manny 27? that might be a little too old for a team to trade for him thinking they can develop him to a front line starter.

Plus he has a pretty long injury history. I doubt Parra really has any trade value at this point. We just have to stick him out there and hope he puts it all together in 2010.

I agree. He has a lousy career ERA and WHIP at this point. He just overall has not been a good pitcher so far. No team is going to give up much for him. Like you said, I think we just have to hope he can put together a serviceable season in 2010.

What would be the asking price on McGowan? I remember being behind home plate for Bush's near no-no (broken up by Overbay's triple) and McGowan was absolutely phenomenal that day. I remember thinking that no matter how the Overbay trade worked out, we (would have) got a very good SP. Considering the amount of depth we have, we could probably afford to take a chance on him staying healthy. Any guess on cost?

Burnett was pitching against Bush, not McGowan. As far as what he'd cost, more than he's currently worth. Toronto has no reason to trade him at his all-time low of value coming off surgery that kept him out the entire year. Plus, they're rebuilding, so having a cheap pitcher is probably appealing to them. Certainly more appealing than any offers they would get for him right now.

Wasn't McGowan one of the original players Melvin tried to get in the Overbay trade or was it Marcum I can't remember exactly if this was just a rumor or was a fact.

I'm not sure if it ever came up in actual discussions, but i remember the talk here at the time was for McGowan.

Bush has pitched 2-1/2 times more innings than McGowan. Their career ERAs are the same-Bush's slightly lower(4.69 vs 4.71). Bush has a much lower WHIP and higher K:BB ratio. McGowan hasn't pitched since July 8, 2008. Talent is great, but performance is better.

Yes Parra's career numbers look bad but he had one good year and one really terrible year. His career ERA and WHIP are probably not a very good indicator of how good he is.

His "good" year was only good in comparison to his really terrible year. Other than his K rate, what's good about a 4.39 ERA, a 1.542 WHIP, and a 4.1/9 IP walk rate? His 2008 is best described as mediocre and while mediocre is a step up from what most of the rotation did last year, to win, they need at least 3 guys to actually be good.

Yeah, his injury history still has me very, very nervous he's going to succomb to future injuries.

I was of the opinion last year that he was injured when he was so erratic as he's never been a guy who's struggled with control...at least not to the point he did last year when he was all over the place, and he ended up having his shoulder "cleaned up". Well, it's not your living room carpet. Any time you have to go into the shoulder, it's troubling.

I do believe he's alright...however it's still concerning.

None of these guys will bring anything but the same in return. I would love to see Marcum in a Brewer uniform, but no GM in baseball wants the Brewer rejects. Hart hasn't made an adjustment at the plate for two years.....might as well give him Hall's locker. Para is a head case. Suppan should stick to counting his money.

I like Bush's competitiveness. In the Fall League in '06, McGowan was scheduled to start the championship game and instead packed his things and drove home. I asked him why, and he said "the Blue Jays got me to promise 5 starts. I made 5 starts, so I'm done"

The rest of the guys were in it for the championship ring and to impress scouts

Shawn Marcun, no thanks. I want guys back who will be around more than a couple years. Marcum will have 4 years of service time by the end of this year. I wouldn't be totally shocked to see Lawrie go though.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

Brewers need to win 85 games this year or Macha, Ash, and Melvin should be sent packing. 7-8 (85 win seasons) and a few playoff appearances each decade shouldn't be asking that much of a good GM. Given DM's massive failure in putting together a decent pitching staff... year after year... its time to do something different

I would rather just keep Melvin not like there is anyone better out there. I wouldn't trade for Marcum unless it was Hart going over for Marcum way to much injury concerns in regards to Marcum to trade Lawrie for him. Maybe Marcum, Alvarez, and a lower level prospect. Anything less than that and it would be a horrible trade especially if it is Marcum straight up.
