Anyone pick up The Show today? Was curious to know what everyone thought. I really enjoy 09 and I'm about 3 years into a Franchise so I have debated getting the new version. Any comments and/or comparisons would be greatly appreciated!

I think the hitting is much improved this year. I really struggled to make contact and judge balls and strikes in last years game. It might be all the practice, I've had a lot more success so far this year. I'm hitting .250 after 4 games at the All-Star and HOF levels. I was struggling to hit .200 throughout last year's game.

I had a really hard time judging pitches in my first game online. Perhaps it was because it was a bit laggy? There were so many people on yesterday that I wouldnt be surprised if the servers were laggy yesterday.

I bought The Show and played my first exhibition game last night. The game looks good aesthetically. They didn't remove the ivy from the back wall at Miller Park, but by the 7th inning or so the sun is shining off of it. The shadows are pretty realistic for a day game.

I found picking up the ball was a bit easier than in 09, but this is my first season with an HD TV, so that might have something to do with it, too. I struggled a bit more with pitching, but I could just be out of practice. I like the fact you can custom build team sounds this year instead of giving every player a home run song. Plus you can build in common music for strike outs, etc.

Random player comments: Gamel kind of got hosed on his ratings. I laughed when I saw they gave him epic plate discipline but zero plate vision. Counsell actually has his "new" stance. I couldn't find Jim Edmonds in the game anywhere, and unless I glossed over him Capuano isn't there, either. Manny Parra is listed as a reliever.

Edmonds wont be on until he makes the big league team.

I agree on Gamel. He did get the 'A' rating for potential though. I haven't gone across every player or team, but it seems like there are fewer and fewer 'A' potential players.

I didn't see the two players you mentioned either. I don't get why Parra is a RP.

This is my first year with The Show for PS3 (had all the previous ones on PS2). Are there roster updates that I will be able to download or how does that work? I know on NBA Live I can go in and update/download the rosters. Thanks in advance.

I just played a day game at Miller Park (The Show). While the shadows are a pretty cool feature, I thought the shadows were way too dark. When the pitcher was in the shadow, you couldn't even see his face. It was kind of annoying.

I figured he might be in the game as a guy not on the 40-man since he has big league experience. Maybe they just excluded a bunch of people who sat out last year, which would explain why Capuano is nowhere to be found since he's not on the 40-man, either. I actually didn't mind Parra being listed as a RP.

JJ, there are roster updates to download which typically come out once a week or so. I wouldn't anticipate any big changes until the regular season starts and 25-man rosters are finalized.

I've been spending some time modifying the base roster and assigning batting music, which is an awesome feature but time consuming.

I will probably skip 2K10 this year. It got pretty meh reviews. Still sounds like it has some really weird flaws that make it not fun. The reviews really liked the pitching and hitting portions of the game.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

Are the roster updates for 2K10 reflected when you play in franchise mode or just online? I'd like to be able to play a season with the actual rosters for 2010.

Based off of past years, they are up to date as to when you start your franchise. After that, no.

A couple reviews of from Kotaku.com (Gawker network)... both by Owen Good

- MLB 2K10

Small picture, MLB 2K10 is a winner.

...

Backing out to the bigger picture, it's not really a high quality sim

...

But for what it had to get right, MLB 2K10 came through. It's a recommendable game on the Xbox 360.

...

MLB 2K10 is not a perfect game. But it is a quality start.

- The Show '10

If there is any sports game capable of selling a console, it has to be MLB 10 The Show. Maybe it can't deliver numbers to make analysts sit up straight, but seamheads who want the top-flight baseball sim have to have this game, and for that they have to have a PlayStation 3.

Despite being the younger franchise released on one platform, MLB The Show ceased being a boutique product a while ago. And with all that the latest game does exceptionally well, it's apparent that this game truly is the standard bearer for console baseball.
