Corey Koskie's Trade Value

I read in the St. Paul Pioneer Press today that Corey Koskie is on the mend and has resumed workouts (I think there is a thread to that effect in the MLB forum).

I guess that I'm assuming that if Koskie is healthy, he'll be the starting 3B and Braun will start the year in AAA. There's been plenty of discussion on the board about Braun starting the season with the Crew, but if Koskie really is healthy, it's fairly logical to think that he'll be the starting 3B.

Assuming that he's going to be healthy enough to play next season, what do you think his trade value might be worth if Ryan Braun is ready for a mid-season call-up? As he has a reasonable contract, could we get a quality relief pitcher for him or does he have greater value in securing some solid minor league prospects?

not a whole lot...some older minor league pitchers? Maybe someone who is on the cusp, but hasn't put it together, or someone that's just out of favor with his current team..

the brewers got graffinino for JDLR last year...i would expect the tables to swap and the brewers could get someone like JDLR for Koskie...

Right now, his trade value is rather low, as pogokat mentioned. However, I think that if he can prove he's no longer injured and put up an .833 OPS like he did last year, his value will be very high at the deadline.

No reason to rush Braun to open the season... If he plays himself into Milwaukee by the deadline, that would be ideal.

His value would probably be less than the Brian Wolfe we traded for him, due to the major injury concerns. Keep him his value as a backup is greater than anything we could get in return for him.

That being said if he is going to get his option gaurenteed, i believe X amount of AB's would have gaurenteed it, then yes you try and dump him. Next year having him on the roster at 6.5 (?) mill would be detrimental to the Brewers.

I think his performance and health in the first couple months of the season will have a lot to do with his trade value. He has a strong enough past to show that when healthy, he is a productive major leaguer. If he's healthy and playing well, a contender with a hole at third base (possibly via injury) may very well overpay for his services.
