Lost Season 6...

razzzorsharp
I've come to realize in this show, they aren't dead unless you see the body. So, in my mind, both Jin and Lapidus could still be alive.

Jin is almost certainly alive, isn't he? There was only one of them crossed out right?

I think people know not to read this thread the day after a new episode if they don't want to see spoilers.

I'm thinking Jin, Sun and Lapidus are dead. I'm hoping Sayid isn't only because they didn't give him a longer death scene. I definitely thought it was fitting the way he sacrificed himself badass, but I would have liked more time ala Jin and Sun's death, which had me in tears btw. The last 15 minutes was just fantastic.

And I don't know if anyone has seen this, clips of Hurley mostly with a Miley Cyrus song, it's cute but with the show ending it just seems sad. FYI the finale is now an hour and a half.

The finale is actually 2 and a half hours now. Plus a 2 hour pre-show, plus they're replaying an "enhanced" Pilot on Sat May 22

Ooh yea, thanks. I'm really going to need tissues from here on out. BTW, I don't get Widmore - good or bad?

I am pretty sure Jin, Sun and Lapidus are all dead but we will still see all of them in the flash-sideways. I have no idea what that part of the plot will end but it is really intriguing.

On the Widmore front, I think he is looking out for the interests of the island. He will do anything to not let the MIB leave. If that involves killing "innocent" people he will definitely do it.

Either that or he is working with the MIB to try and get all of the Candidates in the same place at the same time so they can be killed.

Next week's episode is going to be the best one yet for those of us that are really interested in "the game".

Agreed. The whole Jacob vs. man in black backstory is one I really want to learn more about.

As an aside, a buddy of mine from school is currently producing an independent movie starring the actor that plays Jacob (who was also in The Big Lebowski for those that are fans of that movie).

There was something about last night's episode that rubbed me the wrong way... it was fun and well acted, but all that stuff about "The Light"/"The Source" had me shaking my head. I thought Yoda was going to suddenly appear and start talking about The Force. Not that I was ever expecting Lost to have some groundbreaking philosophical twist, but that was lame. Maybe it'll grow on me after I think about it some more.

So... is the MiB dead? Is the smoke monster actually the fake mom? Is Jacob guarding good or evil?

There was something about last night's episode that rubbed me the wrong way too. Frankly, I found it kind of sloppy for something so late in the show's run. You don't want to answer a question because you think the thematic and character moments are more important? Fine, but why write yourself into having characters ask questions and then trip all over yourselves avoiding the answers?

It's one thing to explore the gray area between faith and rationality. It's another to cop out entirely in favor of faith. We're six seasons in, and while Lost definitely has themes, whether it has a thesis/point is still up in the air. We have free will vs. no choice referenced again. We have blind faith (Jacob in this case) against rationality (MiB). We have biblical/mythic references. (Heck, the island might actually be Eden and Allison Janney might equal Lilith. That might even make sense.) We have a mother raising children not her own. We have supposedly good characters doing bad. We have a complicated plot and mythology. And are they going to bring all of this together? This episode certainly didn't make me very confident as Jacob is still pretty much a cipher to me. And that's a much bigger issue to me than whether they adequately explained the donkey wheel or not.

And what a way to kill the momentum. Lost frequently shifts focus among the cast, but at least we know them. After last weeks event, we cut to three people we don't know very well and they're still mysterious at the end? And I've complained about the Pacific's momentum killing shifts in focus, but Lost takes the cake this week.

The episode lost me (pun intended) when the non pregnant woman refused to answer questions about the island. I believe she said "All it will lead to is more questions". That's lazy writing in my opinion. Not like I'm entitled to answers or something but if you're going to lead people down a path you should offer a payoff.

All I could think of watching it is: This episode could've been put in any previous season and done what it did here: Added absolutely nothing.

I agree Baldkin. this is exactly what my wife and I discussed last night. They surely could have put that episode sooner into this season's schedule, couldn't they have? Instead, they have been rising and rising and rising with the plot up to the climax (we hope) of the finale and then they bring out this episode that killed all that momentum.

And, yeah, the whole "light" thing in the water? BOOOOOO writers! (unless you explain it in the final 2 episodes).

All I can think of is that the light was a "prison" or something for the evil (smokey) of the world and "mom" (allison janney) was the warden and told Jacob not to enter so he wouldn't let the evil out. But when he put his brother in, the evil (smokey) escaped and shape shifted into his brother. With Jacob realizing that his brother was already dead, he knew that the MiB that he sees and converses with later on is not his brother and so he vows to make sure he can't leave the island.

Now, WHY they can't leave the island???? I wish they'd explain that one.

I actually wish there was another episode/hour following last night's to see how Jacob came to realize all this and how/when/why he made the "list" of candidates, built the lighthouse/mirror thing, the statue with 4 toes, etc. (if he even did any of that stuff.)

Maybe they'll explain all that in the novels that they are planning.

The light has some similarities to the tree of good and evil in the garden of eden. Eating the fruit unleashed evil as did entering the light. Goes with the two being called adam and eve too. I did like seeing that question get answered.

My question is could the man in black really not leave or was his "mother" lying to him. Meaning she just did not want him to leave.

wow. I'm kind of shocked that they did some revealing of answers with the "A Very Special Fireside Chat with Jacob" scenes. I thought for sure they'd hold off on those until the finale.

Even so, a very pleasing episode, very solid. Should be a great finale.

Are we to assume that Richard is dead? He just got flung by smokie and that's all we saw.

So is Jacob God and The Man in Black the devil? Interesting line from tonight when Locke said (and I'm paraphrasing): I like the feel of the earth below my feet.

I know that God cursed "snakes" to crawl on their bellies after they deceived Eve. And Locke is a Snake of sorts when he appears as the smoke monster.

Crap...I swore I wasn't going to get into theories until the whole thing was over with. Arrrrrrrrgggggghhh!
