Problems posting from iPhone or other mobile device?

I don't often post from my phone, but I know it's worked in the past; I most recently posted something from my phone about three weeks ago, so I know it was working then. Casey says Yuku pushed code on Friday trying to make some toolbar buttons available to Safari users, and I'm now currently unable to use the full text editor reply box on my iPhone, though the Quick Reply box works fine.

The toolbar buttons appear to work (I don't recall how they worked/what was present before now), except that the font name button brings up a window that's too large, mostly hiding the OK button you need to click to close it once you've made your selection. The following toolbar buttons are present, with the rest of the ones you normally see absent: font color, font name, highlight color, bold, italics, underline, left justify, center, and right justify. After that, there are two buttons that aren't present in normal browsers, loopy left and right arrows. Dunno what they do since I can't enter text, but the first time I pressed one it crashed Safari. I can still type in the title box just fine.

Is anyone else having this problem? How about people on other mobile platforms? As Casey noted, if you are having a problem with the full text editor but can still use the Quick Reply box, you should be able to use BBCode to do most things.

battlekow, does this approximate what you see on your iPhone?

It's the post editor I'm seeing in Safari 4 in Snow Leopard. (I'm having difficulty with it (I can't get a cursor into the post area, so I wonder if the problems are interrelated.)

As you say, the Quick Reply editor works, but if you try to preview, you'll be continuing your post in the WYSIWYG editor. To prevent that, you might try setting your account preference to display Quick Reply as your default editor.

To make the change, follow these steps:

  • Hit the Account link in the navigation bar.
  • Hit the Preferences link in the Settings box at the lower right.
  • Change your editor type at the bottom of the page, and hit Submit.

The one downside to choosing the plain text editor this way is that it'll be what pops up when hitting Reply in any browser. If you need different editors in different browsers, you'll have to change your preferences each time you need a different editor.

The issue that battlekow brings up is timely because Yuku is working on enhancing its ability to work in WebKit browsers. Besides the the iPhone and Safari/Chrome for desktop systems, this group of browsers also includes the Droid and the iPad.

If anyone's willing to test in any of these devices and report back, it'd sure be helpful. What we need to know is what happens when you use the WYSIWYG editor after hitting Reply in a post. Knowing if the BBCode editor works would be useful, too. Feel free to use this topic to test.

To change editors, follow these steps:

  • Hit the Account link in the navigation bar.
  • Hit the Preferences link in the Settings box at the lower right.
  • Change your editor type at the bottom of the page, and hit Submit.

Due to a code push today, these directions are a little bit different than what I have in the lead. I'll edit in the directions I've included in this message to reflect that.

One more thing... the issue I described in the first reply (not getting the cursor into the post editor in Safari) is only occurring for me on one computer. I think it might be a plug-in issue. I'd suspect that Safari users on desktop systems should be fine.
