Returns to Baltimore for the first time since 2007. No salary has been announced yet, and the deal is pending a physical. It looks like he'll be playing third for the O's.

Edit: Deal will be for $6 million plus incentives.

He put up good numbers in a contract year in a very friendly hitters park in Houston. Last year was probably a fluke.

This year will be a contract year as well, so I'm sure he'll get another boost. Heck, if a team was smart, they would sign every player to 1 year deals, so they can get that 20% gain in performance.

I sense some sarcasm there. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif With Tejada leaving Houston, there are some pretty awful shortstops in the NL Central. Check this out.

Cardinals - Brendan Ryan

Astros - Manzella/Keppinger

Cubs - Theriot

Pirates - Cedeno/Crosby

Reds - Jannish

Escobar might have the best WAR in the division after the season is over, and that isn't even a ridiculous thought.

They already signed Garret Atkins, then passed on Adam La Roche who signed for less than Tejada. So Tejada will play 3rd although he's never played there before, and Atkins will play 1B although he was orginally a 3B. Kinda reminds when they decided Jeff Conine would be their 3rd baseman one year, although he'd never played there before. Despite the new GM they continue to show little regard for modern baseball statistical models. Andy MacPhail said they would draft the pitching and buy the bats. Recently he said defense was going to be a top priority. Atkins and Tejada are supposedly the bats they are buying. Don't quite see how they fit into the defense priority.

I agree on Tejada, Invader, and moving Atkins to 1B does seem to fall in with paying more attention to defense (that or DHing him; I'm not familiar enough with the O's to know who their DH might be)
