Andy Warhol: The Last Decade

InsomniacInkRoss

Has anyone gone to see this?

I plan on making it out there in the next day or too. A major interest in the art itself, and also as a "thank you" to Mark Attanasio who, I believe, paid quite a bit of the price to make it happen. We should all go and let Mark know we like it when he spends a lot of money to bring Milwaukee nice things.

I went with my sister probably around a month ago, right when it opened up. I'm not the biggest art fan, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Everybody, I believe, thinks of the giant Cambell's Soup Can when they think of Warhol, and he truly has done a lot more. Warhol was a very intelligent yet closed and slightly disturbed artist. I would recommend it.

The Attanasio's, Bradley's, and the Selig's were among the major contributors to the exhibit, IIRC, it was awesome to great lengths to make Milwaukee and the surrounding area that much greater.

If you do go, make sure to get the self guided tour headsets, it really makes a huge difference. Also, make sure you check out his Oxidation Paintings. I was rather....amused by them.

We went during Art After Dark. It was ok....not sure I'd pay the admission fee to go see it. However, I'd go to the far northeast corner of the museum and go into the Infiniti room. That was cool. There's also more warhol stuff back in that direction.

For those who didn't already know, this is a Milwaukee Art Museum exhibit...that closes on Sunday, January 3.

That being the case, I don't think we'll get there in time. When in Pittsburgh earlier this decade, we visited the Warhol museum there and enjoyed it.

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

I remember the Paine Art Center in Oshkosh had a ton of Warhol and Lichtenstein pieces a couple years ago. It was pretty impressive considering the Paine is just an old historic mansion. Wish I knew about the MKE Art Museum exhibit before.

I went today, hoping it wouldn't be very busy, but, there were a lot of people there. Kinda surprised for it being a holiday, but, the crowd didn't look like the type that was up all last night either.

By far my favorite piece was a variation of this:

I didn't realize how heavily Warhol worked with silk screening which makes me like him a little more.

The audio tour was pretty good, it enhanced a few pieces, especially the "piss paintings" AKA the Oxidation Paintings

Infinity room was cool, I want a room in my house to be like that someday, haha.

Made it on Saturday and was glad I made the trip. It was a really solid exhibit and photos really don't do justice to the sheer size of some of the works.

Lots of stuff worked. I think my favorite pieces were the faux-Pollocks that once you got close didn't look much like Pollock's at all.
