Pearls (Madison Area)

So my fiancee's birthday is coming up in about a month and I was thinking of getting her a nice pearl necklace. I was wondering if anyone knew of a good jewelry store in the Madison area to purchase pearls, or if I should just go check out the usual big name jewelry stores.

I would recommend the Jewelers Workshop on North High Point Road. There's also a location on North Sherman, but I've never been there. A few years ago I had a custom pearl bracelet made for my wife and it turned out very nice. My wife also got my wedding band from there as well and I am happy with that. They have a good selection of pearls in different colors, sizes and price, and you can chose to custom make the necklace or just pick from what they already have. I thought they were friendly and helpful in coming up with a design for the piece. It's also nice giving money to a locally owned company versus some mall chain. Hope this helps.

I got my fiance a set of pearls from thepearlsource.com, and they look awesome. Pretty nice prices too. I was a little wary, but they are pretty stunning.

I am pretty sure I saw a newspaper ad in the last week that said the High Point location of Jewelers Workshop is about to close. The N. Sherman location is staying open. So the west side location might have less inventory. That's if I remember correctly what I read.

 

Also, I would try Goodman's on State St, at least out of curiosity. One of my college classmates bought his wedding rings there (going on 20 years ago, when the Goodman brothers were still on the job) and his charming story about the experience always made me think I'd at least give them a try if I were looking for jewelry. But I'm not much of a jewelry wearer, so the opportunity has yet to arise.
