Digital Cameras

miggs721
Whats up guys, and gals. I'm in the market for a new digital camera, and prefer a slim 10-12 mega pixel in blk/silver. Any suggestions, I'm looking to spend under 150, and basically looking for high quality pictures. I see there is a Casio Exilim z33 for 80 bucks right now, just curious

I bought a Canon Powershot SD890 IS about six months ago, I don't remember how much it was, but remember it being reasonable (got it off of Amazon) it has one drawback that you have to take the battery out to charge it, but it seems to have a rather long battery life, and it does only take about five seconds to remove the thing to charge, so it doesn't irritate me that much. It's a 10 MP with a 5x zoom, silver, and I think it takes great pictures but I use it mostly casually.

Really, knowing next to nothing about Cameras, I simply remember looking in my price range on Amazon and reading the reviews of pretty much every different camera and settled on this one. I think its a great camera for what I use it for, which really isn't much. It was easy to figure out and has served me well. Good luck.

I'm a weirdo film shooter so I don't have any specific recommendations, but I know a lot of people who speak highly of the cheaper Canon models. Go to Best Buy or some place and try a few out, so you can get a feel for the controls too.

One thing to note though, is that you shouldn't worry much about megapixels. They're an invention of marketing departments, and don't really have anything to do with image quality.

If you do a lot of cropping and zooming and editing of photos, the Megapixels do matter, they aren't just some magical thing.

To the average user who wants to show pictures to friends and post them on Facebook or get them printed out, beyond 5-6 MP they don't matter.

Right - printing and cropping definitely benefit from more resolution, though the difference between 10-12mp (and even 6-12, IMO) is negligible. My point was only that more resolution doesn't have anything to do with image quality, which it doesn't.

I'd have to agree that most cameras have plenty of megapixels for fairly large blowups. As was mentioned, if you're going to try to pick out faces and enlarge, you might have a greater need to look at this number. For most of us, that's pretty much a non-factor, though.

Look at features: glass vs. plastic lens, the type of battery the camera uses, ease of charging, etc., then go with what fits your style. I wanted one that used AA batteries, for instance; you can buy batteries anywhere in a pinch.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.
