Phil Hughes

Joba is the better relief pitcher while Hughes is a better starting pitcher.
Judging by there MLB stats Hughes actually has been a little better as a reliever than Joba, and Joba has been much better than Hughes has been as a starter. Although both have been much better as relievers.

I will still take Hughes over Joba as a starter. Joba has a fastball and a work in progress off speed pitch. While Hughes has his fastball and an average off speed pitch. Hughes is definitely more developed as a starter than Joba is. Joba is more suited to the bullpen than Hughes is but that is just my opinion on that matter.

It seems Joba will go to the pen, might as well make him the 8th inning guy now so when Rivera finally does retire he can slide right into the closer role in NY. I would love to get Hughes for our rotation, just not sure how much we would have to give up. Probably too much.

I still haven't seen any discussion about Joba to the bullpen from any of the Yanks beat writers blogs I check, so until I do, I'm going to just keep my opinion that Joba will be a starter again in 2010. It seems like it's speculation in either case.

Again Hughes pitched just over 100 innings last year. Its really hard to see the Yankees giving him a full time slot given that. Joba on the other hand pitched 157. both are really good, I like Hughes more but Chamberlain's slight struggles starting last year tends to make people underrate him
