Any interest in Kelly Johnson

He was non-tendered today. I've always been a bit of a fan of the guy. He can play a decent second base and even can handle backup CF duties in addition to being a corner outfield option. He'd be great off the bench. I personally wouldn't mind bringing the guy in and then dangling Weeks for a good starter, though I know that plan is very far-fetched. My point is, I'd have no problem having him handle 2B until Lawrie is ready if somebody offers something juicy for Weeks.

Very interested. He's never played CF and I don't think he can, but he played 650ish innings in LF and while it's a small sample he posted an impressive 10.3 UZR. Letting him play a corner spot in the outfield could open up a trade for Hart and it would give us insurance at second base if Weeks gets hurt again.

I agree- Johnson has been one of my guys to target for a couple of years now, and I'd think he'd be a great asset for the Brewers if they could fit him in the budget.

That said, I don't think the Brewers would be able to offer him enough guaranteed playing time right now to get him to choose Milwaukee over other teams that have a big need at 2B.

Braves fan weighing in....JoJo Reyes is still young but is running out of options in Atlanta....good stuff but he hasn't put it together in the majors, most likely due to location issues... if he doesn't get it going soon he may be labeled "AAAA" ....he'll probably start 2010 in AAA & is still a guy to keep an eye on

Johnson tried to play thru a wrist injury & it just screwed his stats....he's a good hitter but a below average 2B....his problem is that he's never hit well as a part-time player but when he can be penciled into a lineup everyday he does just fine....

Sounds exactly like a guy the Brewers should try to buy low on (if that's possible)

The Braves may need to remove Reyes from their 40-man roster to make room for future additions....I agree that the Brewers could get him on the cheap.... he could be a diamond-in-the-rough if Peterson could work his magic with Reyes....

IMHO he's alot like Parra....(although his stuff isn't as electic as Manny's it's still good enough)....like Parra he doesn't trust his stuff & nibbles too much which results in high pitch counts....all he needs is a pitching coach to convince him to just throw strikes

I'm not convinced Johnson could play the outfield, or hit well enough to justify the switch anyway. Maybe if he could play more infield positions than just 2nd base (specifically shortstop)...but since he can't there is no need for him. In my opinion, Weeks is better hands down offensively and defensively. McGehee probably is too, even though he doesn't play 2nd much.

I think that Johnson has been the third biggest non Brewer fan favorite on this site behind David DeJesus and Jonathan Sanchez, and I'm sure that lots of people would rather have him then Weeks. I just don't get it.
