Great guy. Mediocre pitcher. I do remember that Cub game and it definitely was his shining moment. Marshall Edwards had a shining moment too.

I also remember him coming in Vs Giants on opening day this year too and walking the park. Another memory was him constantly crying about not starting even though his stuff was awful after 65 pitches. Just trying to bring some fair balance around here.

However, I would like to see him get another chance to prove himself with a minor league deal if things fall through for him. He does have pretty good stuff to be a decent long reliever.

From the JS blog:

"They just cut ties," said McClung. "They said they had no desire for a non-roster situation. Outside of that, everything was positive with my star there. I enjoyed being a Brewer."

Sounds like McClung was willing to stay on a smaller contract, but is gone for sure. no minor league deal, ST invite, or anything. This is disappointing. I like McClung. He's not worth what he would have made in arby, so the non-tender was the right decision. But why not sign him to a minor league deal if he really wants to be here? He's a versatile pitcher who's given them plenty of quality innings.

i didn't have any expectations for him when we got him, so needless to say i was happy he was here. I think he really improved as a brewer, as he really only had one pitch which was a straight fastball when he got here and worked really hard to become a complete pitcher. best of luck to him.

I thought it was young kids that don't like Macha because he doesn't like them? Or is it just all baseball players in general?

well i heard that the players he didn't get along with was Kendall, Hart, Hardy, and Cameron. Who are all on the way out (or rumored on the way out)

Gamel may or may not be on that list. Based on Macha's comments about calling him a "flake" IIRC I think Gamel is on that list. I don't get the impression that Macha is well liked by anyone on the Brewers.

I think McClung's desire to be a starter hurt him - he made it known that's what he wanted. I thought he flourished as a reliever - as some have pointed out. I would like to have had him back. Perhaps simply said, 'Seth, you're a reliever. Can you deal with that?" If not, part ways. I think he can be a solid reliever, but no big deal. Oh well, best of luck to him.

I heard or read somewhere that Braun didn't like him much either (1250 post game show maybe?).

Best of luck to Seth. He's an all around class act, and the kinda guy who'd letcha pull up a chair and have lunch with him if he was eating alone. I always liked him as he always signed for everybody in the lot, and the memories of him in that last weekend of 08 that others mentioned.

My favorite memory of all was in 2007 at auto fridays when my friend asked if he would sign his ball "I drilled Pujols" he replied with a grin "Sorry, but I don't think I should do that" with a grin.

According to Haudricourt's blog. Link

I don't think is much of a surprise to anybody.

McClung, DiFelice, Rivera not tendered contracts

By Tom Haudricourt of the Journal Sentinel

The Brewers just announced they will not tender 2010 contracts to relievers Seth McClung and Mark DiFelice and catcher Mike Rivera.

DiFelice and McClung were not surprises. DiFelice recently had shoulder surgery and can't pitch in 2010, and McClung posted on his twitter site last night that he was told he wouldn't be tendered.

Rivera is something of a surprise because he served as the backup for Jason Kendall the last two years. The Brewers replaced Kendall with veteran Gregg Zaun and claimed backup George Kottaras off waivers from Boston, and also have two catching prospects in their system, Jonathan Lucroy and Angel Salome.

Rivera, 33, was eligible for salary arbitration for the first time after making $415,000 last season.

SIx other arbitration-eligible players were tendered contracts -- right-hander Dave Bush, rightfielder Corey Hart, centerfielder Carlos Gomez, reserve outfielder Jody Gerut and relievers Todd Coffey and Carlos Villanueva.

I blame Wang.

I am really hoping Bush can bounce back and am glad the Brewers brought him back. He actually pitched pretty well before he got hit with that line drive off his arm but was a mess when he tried to come back later in the season.

I'm surprised Bush got tendered. I hope he bounces back but I think we could have spent the money we would have saved by non tendering him and gotten a better option as a starter.
Not really. Both Washburn and Davis would cost more than what Bush was making and that is debatable if they are even an improvement over Bush or even as good as Bush. Smoltz would also cost a bit more and I doubt Smoltz has much interest to pitch in Milwaukee looks as though he will be signing with the Phillies.

I would rather pass on both Davis and Washburn especially with the amount of years they would want to be signed for and the dollar amounts.

The real news is that Bush, Villanueva and Gerut all were tendered.

I wasn't surprised at all that Villanueva was tendered a contract. He's a good relief guy who isn't going to be very expensive. Gerut wasn't really that surprising either since he can play all three outfield spots and isn't going to cost more than any other fourth outfielder that's worth anything most likely. Bush was sort of surprising to me.

Yeah I guess that is news, but other than Gerut none should really be surprising. Even Gerut isn't all that surprising.

We still need Bush. Even if he makes $6M we are not likely to get a guy who can put up an ERA in the 4.5 range cheaper unless that guy also has serious injury questions.

Villanueva shouldn't be all that expensive in his first year of arbitration. He can provide solid innings out of the pen. Sure he has a blow up once in a while. All but the best do.

Gerut can play all 3 spots in the outfield. Left handed bat. He has played in the majors and complements our mostly righthanded OFers well.

I blame Wang.
