Randy Wolf to Sign with Brewers, 3 years plus club option/$29.75 million

Funketown
Yeah, I was somewhat surprised how well spoken he was. Not that I expected him to be simple or something, but he seemed really knowledgeable and wasn't just giving the usual "stock baseball answers," that you'd usually expect in a press conferenced like that.

Listening to Wolf on Homer right now. He said he's a "Star Wars nerd." I have a feeling that's going to endure him to a few posters around here.
And your clever use of irony to me.

It will endear him to many who would frequent a message board I imagine, but it does actually endure him to me because I HATE Star Wars. Now if he had said Dark City, that would have been a different story. He had an affinity for Memento so that somewhat makes up for the other bad movie choice in my eyes. In all seriousness he came off as a very likable guy.

TLB might be down with him but I still say boo.

Oops. Nope. Just a dumb typo. Here's the link. The Star Wars stuff comes at about the 8 minute mark.

New article up at baseballanalysts.

http://baseballanalysts.com/archives/behind_the_scor/

Using this 2009 data from two different data sources, again shows the dollars per win value above $6 million. While estimates based on projected WAR may yield a different figure, the reality is that teams are paying much more than that (or at least they did in 2009). Interestingly, 2009 was seen at the time as being a depressed free agent market, where teams could pick up relatively cheap bargains. At $6.5 to $7 million per win, there were very few bargains to be had

If this is accurate it would suggest Wolf can put up as little as 1.5 WAR per season and still be an ok signing. If he puts up 2 WAR or more each season he was a bargain. It also goes to show that free agents are just too darn expensive.
