Corey Hart for John Maine Mets

Recommended Posts

This could be one where we learn in hurry about Rick Peterson. If Peterson pushes for this trade, he better know that the guys injuries are not a long-term threat. Otherwise, we could learn that Peterson is a bit too caught up in his own reputation as an injury avoiding miracle worker...

I'd much rather trade Hart for Edwin Jackson, but that does not sound possible given what Detroit wants. I don't mind taking a flyer on Maine, but as you said, it is very high risk. And once Hart is gone, we lose one of our few remaining trading chips.

John Maine was really good when Peterson was with the Mets, and another decent example of the type of guy the Brewers should probably be looking at getting by trade. His injury history is again concerning, but Peterson is supposed to help with that as well.

Agreed Invader, I'd still like to see a couple of guys like Mulder or Smoltz signed as well, but the nice thing about trading for Maine is that it would then free up some cash to acquire a bat or two, considering they'd have to fill a spot in the OF.

Maybe that's when they should pull the trigger on a Suppan/Pierre swap if such a thing is possible.

Not sure if I'm being sarcastic there or not.

Edit: Actually Tom Haudricourt just posted that a Brewers official said they have "no interest in Pierre." So strike that one out.

MLB trade rumors had listed Maine as a possible non-tender by the Mets. Makes me wonder how healthy he is if they would give him up. The Mets are mentioned on a lot of pitchers so if they were confident in Maine's health, I think they'd hold on to him.

I still say Hart for Brandon McCarthy is a good match.

Rotoworld had speculation that if Hart were traded that Marlon Byrd would be the next target for the Crew. I would love Marlon Byrd's bat on this team. Not sure what kind of defender he is though.

I would easily do this Maine/Harty swap. Even when he was injured his numbers looked good, Low BAA, low WHIP, the K:BB ratio leaves a lot to be desired however.

Another option if you deal Hart is to try Gamel in RF. I'd love to see the lefthanded bat in the lineup. Don't know how instinctive he'd be out there, but he seems athletic enough, strong arm, etc. Maybe try him out in spring training and if he's not ready, left him spend some time at AAA until they're comfortable in RF to bring him up.

Maybe we could bring the Dodgers into the fray and throw Hart and Soup for Maine and Pierre with the Dodgers getting Castillo and maybe a prospect from us and Mets. Long shot, but just throwing that out there.

ESPN's winter meeting stream is saying that any Hart for Maine swap would have to wait until the Mets finalize things with other pitchers. Could that be Randy Wolf? What if the Mets had to sign Wolf before trading us Maine? Personally, I wouldn't be too heartbroken because I'm not sure how I feel about the amount of cash and the length of the contract Wolf might get. You have to pay for pitching, but $9-10 million per for three years scares me.

Ankiel will get an inflated contract due to being a Boras client. I don't think the Brewers have a shot at him.
If this is now taken to be indisputable fact, why does any player have an agent other than Boras? Are they all just too stupid to act in their best interests?

Because Boras and his company can't realistically service all 750+ MLB players?
Why not? They could easily hire more agents if they needed to. CAA, one of the biggest agencies for actors and so forth, has over 1,400 clients. No reason Boras couldn't expand in a similar fashion.

I could see Gamel in LF, Gomez in Center, and Braun in Right.

Maybe we traded for Gomez knowing he will have to cover extra ground. That guy has crazy range in center.

I think this is a great idea. If we can get one starter from a trade and one free agent starter without giving up any of Gamel, Salome, or Lucroy, I'd be a happy camper.

No thanks, Maine is damaged goods. Pitchers with bum shoulders can't be depended on for anything except for time on the D.L. Hart has to have more value than this, doesn't he? I know he's not that popular here after the last season and a half, but he hasn't been that bad.

It's a gamble to hold onto Hart past this off season. I don't see his value staying idle. It will either go way back up after a very productive 2010 year or down it it is more of the same. If you can get John Maine for Corey Hart, I think you have to pull the trigger. Look what Hardy was worth. If we would have traded him a year ago we would have netted more. It's a gamble but I think finding a replacement for Hart is easier than finding a pitcher as good as Maine.
