Ipod to New Computer

SenatorShriv

My old computer recently crashed completely. It won't even turn on and several computer experts have failed to get all of my old music, pictures and documents off of it. In addition to the music on my Ipod from that computer I have music that I legitimatly purchased or live concerts that I downloaded from legit sites from older computers that I no longer have access to on a hard drive. Now I'm sitting on almost 70 Gigs of music on an aging Ipod that I don't want to lose to the inevitable Ipod crash.

Does anyone have experiance transfering information from an Ipod to a new computer? I'm sure that there is softwear out there that will allow me to transfer the information. I'm just wondering if anyone has experience with anything that worked particularly well?

Step 1) Unhide your folders in windows explorer (tools -> options -> view)

Step 2) Browse into your ipod and find the hidden folders with all your music files

Step 3) Copy said files onto your new hard drive

Step 4) Open up iTunes, and make sure under preferences -> advanced "Keep iTunes Folder Organized" and "Copy Music to iTunes folder" are both checked

Step 5) add the folders you copied to the desktop to iTunes

That should be it.

Your user name and pw from iTunes should allow you to re-access any files from iTunes you've already downloaded.

I had a similar issue when I left one company to go to a competitor and they completely locked me out of the old computer. I used something call iPod Access.

Worked just fine. Don't remember how much it cost but it was under $20 I think,
