Kevin Correia?

Kelbysdaddy[/b]]why wait for him to get non-tendered? offer up a couple middle prospects, maybe katin and an a ball infielder for him. i would much rather give up a little and get him then have someone else get him first.
Exactly. And I don't know how this whole non-tendering process works, but I'm sure SD would rather get a couple of mid-tier prospects for him than nothing at all. Come on Doug.

Melvin basically has said he's now going to wait and let the market come to him. Translation, if there's anything left over in a few weeks that we can get cheaply (for a bargain), then we'll act. Maybe Melvin doesn't want to bid up Correia's price. Surely there's a market for him.

I brought his name up before. I agree, Correia would be a great addition to the Brewers pitching staff. he is a young guy with talent worth building on. We almost traded for him in the middle of the season last year.

Rarely, it seems, do I value Brewers prospects more than you guys do, but Taylor Green is worth more than Correia. There's a reason he's a non-tender candidate at that cost. He's not the type of player you give up a top 10-15 prospect and a serviceable reliever for. I might offer something like Rob Wooten and Katin

I guess it's easy to be a bit down on Green after the wrist injury. I hope he bounces back, but one reason I like the deal is that Correia fills a need right now, and wrist injuries can be tough from which to rebound (iirc).

Yah, no way do I trade Green for Correia. Green's value is low, and Green future value to the Brewers could be very high. I wouldn't include Villy either - I doubt the Padres would even want him as he's due for arbitration.

If I'm interested in Correia, I'd offer Dillard and Aguilar/Katin at most.

I don't know why Green would be too much for Correia.

Correia's numbers last season were excellent. 3.91 ERA, 142 k vs only 64 bb in 198 IP. He would have been the 2nd best SP on our rotation last season. Heck, he could possibly be the second best SP on our rotation for this season too.

He's a solid #3. I guess I don't see why Green is such a good prospect that he wouldn't be worth giving up for a solid #3. Especially when we take into account Green's wrist injury and the possible impact of said injury.

But this is coming from someone who is not entirely sold on Green as a future MLB 3b. So I suppose it could be taken with a grain of salt.

How do we know he is going to be non-tendered though? I imagine for a pitcher of his caliber that there will be other teams willing to offer prospects for him (after all he is cheap and cost controlled for the next two seasons). Thus the reason I believe it'll likely take a prospect like Green to get him.

Certainly, if we can get him for a lesser prospect, do that. I just don't see it. He's a solid player and I imagine the Padres will get offers for him.

TRWI7, I know how to read. My point, and the point CLEARLY made by most here in this discussion is that it seems like a no brainer for a number of teams to offer prospects to San Diego for Correia's services. Certainly, we should give them the worst prospect possible. However, if the bidding gets started on him, I don't think giving away Green would be too steep a price for Correia's services, which was the whole point of the past page of discussion. Understand now?

Has there been any team even offering prospects? I'm sure they're all thinking "let's go after him after he's non-tendered. That way we don't have to give up anything for him."

It's really not going to take much if he's traded. Certainly not Green.

Why would a team wait for him to be non-tendered? He'll probably cost just as much on the Free Agent market, plus you have to fight for control with 29 other teams for his services. If you trade for him you take out all competition for him.

I think you are playing down the ability of Correia. The Padres are insane for not being willing to go to Arby for him.

thats a damn decient rotation as far as i'm concerned. melvin said he needed 2 starting pitchers. i dont see why he's waiting around when correia is going to be cheap. davis and garland are no better than correia (wouldnt mind garland though) but more expensive. sheets wants a lot of money and i really dont see him coming back. DO SOMETHING FAST DOUG, YOU WAITED LAST SEASON AND SEE WHERE THAT GOT US!!!!!!!
