How are your slingbox experiences?

The Mexican Weez

My friend and I were talking about the slingbox yesterday (neither of us ever used one) and I decided to investigate it. I just wanted to know what your experiences are with them. Do they work? Can I "sling" HD over the internet on DSL lines using their HD product? Is standard dsl able to handle the bandwith? I don't want to start a discussion on what we could use it for, I just want to know if its worth it or if there are any major issues with them, any recommended configurations?

Thanks!

I have a standard slingbox (not HD) and it works fantastically over DSL. The set-up is a breeze and it works really well while I'm on the road.

The only problem I have had was a few times I could not connect to it. But I later found out that it was because the power went out and my network was down. When the power came back up, I still couldn't connect because the slingbox couldn't re-connect with the network. I had to wait until I was back at home to manually connect it.

I really haven't used it as much as I thought that I would, but it's a nice option to have for those times that I do want to watch TV on the road.

For remote streaming a minimum of 256Kbps uploading capability is required, while for HD streaming an upload speed of 1.5 Megabits per second or higher is required.

So, I doubt DSL upload speeds will top 1.5MB/s

You'd have to check with your DSL company.
