Wisconsin Vs. Duke Game Updated 11/30

lodiness
They played Sound Tribe Sector 9 off their new album "Peaceblaster" more than once last night, not sure if that's what you're talking about.
I'll check that later, but I believe the snippet I'm thinking of is played only once per game, right before it starts. It's accompanied by a montage of highlights on the videoboard.

Edit: I don't think Peaceblaster is the answer. Thanks, though.

So please, let us college kids have our fun. We stood outside in the cold for 2 hours, we paid for the tickets. Critics of the on-court celebration were sitting back in their LA-Z-BOY at home, and likely didn't have to move an inch the whole game. State Street after the game was also a great time, I don't think I've went out on a Wednesday night since my freshman year. So again, please let us have our fun.

I actually just graduated college last year. I just do not really dig storming the court. Like others have said, Wisconsin is not a bad program. Just seems silly to me, but then again. I am not a huge basketball fan, so perhaps that has something to do with it.

Im also not sure what not having to move the entire game has anything to do with it.

The photo of Leuer reminds me of the one in SI (Heaven Cent) of Penney being mobbed after they beat Illinois for the first outright Big 10 title in 50+ years. I think this is the 1st time they've stormed since then. This is probably one of the top 2 or 3 home wins in memory. Once every 6 years or so? I think the kids have it in perspective. It's also a nice tribute to the other team. I really got a kick out of the Purdue, Indiana (!) and Michigan State (!!) fans rushing the court after they beat Wisconsin when Bucky was ranked high.

Students stormed the court in March 2008 when the Badgers also were Big Ten champions - although the clincher game was a blowout of Penn State (I like that phrase: "blowout of Penn State") rather than a nailbiter like the 2003 game with Illinois.

What I find astounding is that I've had the good fortune to attend each of those games. We buy the weeknight games from a season ticket holder whose son lives near Milwaukee and only wants to go to weekend games. (The season ticket holder himself is retired and living in California.)

I always thought that overhead photo of Kirk Penney (assuming that's the one you mean, sd) was just slightly creepy looking...kind of like he was enjoying it too much (even though I very much doubt that's the case).

"Im also not sure what not having to move the entire game has anything to do with it. "

It was in reference to being actively involved and engaged with the game at hand, not lounging back in your chair, and being a casual observer. One could argue that any fan, whether watching from home or in attendance, is nothing but a casual observer, but being in that high-energy atmosphere is contagious.

I may have been in my Laz-ee-boy chair, but I was FAR from just sitting on my butt watching the game. I was yelling. I was jumping out of my seat. I was doing the traveling motions with my arms that would drive hawing nuts (sorry, hawing, I get into it.)

Hell, I'm 37 year old and I stormed my living room with my 5' tall inflatable Bucky Badger and we jumped up and down and yelled while my wife looked at me strangely (and secretly wanting to join me, I'm sure!)

Just because we're at home don't assume that we're all ho-humming our way through a basketball game.

/soap box rant.

As a UW Senior, I was at the 03 championship clincher and didnt storm the court. I stayed in my lower student section seat and just watched.....it was cool. People were going nuts. I have to tell you all, last night as I was watching the game, I was jumping up and down, yelling, going crazy. It was great!

Its great to see Bo Ryan win a big game every now and again, because he is a great coach who still probably does not get the respect that he has earned over a long and fantastic career.

I'm not a UW fan, but as an outsider, I consider their program to be very, very strong. Duke is too, but not that much better. In any given season, I'd expect Wisconsin to beat Duke at home most of the time. IMO, storming the court was a celebration of UW defeating ESPN more than anything.

edit: typo

Agreed. UW has made how many tourneys in a row? A legit program like that should not storm the court in that situation. It's the first week in December, for crying out loud. Act like you expect to win at home. And like I said earlier, that was the perfect matchup for UW, maybe an upset in ranking, but not so much on the court. The gap is not that large.

I'm sure it was fun for those on the court, but it didn't look great to the outsider on TV, IMO. Duke is not what they once were.

Well they were ranked in the top 5 and we're on page three of this thread dedicated to the game, so it's a little bigger deal than just another win. I have to believe it might be the best game I've ever been to (did I mention I hate Duke?). Like I said, I see both sides.

Right before that play their player (can't remember who it was) lost control of the ball and was the first player to touch it again. That should've been a travel.

That was the play where my aforementioned shriek happened. Bo was concerned about the goaltend, while I was yelling 'travelling' at the top of my lungs.

If college hoop rankings were like boxing and we took over the #5 rank by defeating Duke, storming the court would be well warranted.

That'd be cool if football and basketball did it that way. Beat somebody--get their rank. Like a title belt.

I stormed Camp Randall when the Badgers beat OSU the season after they won the national title (2003?). That was pretty sweet. When you get emotionally involved in a big game like that it is almost a natural reaction now to the horn.

I think the idea of "defeating ESPN" is also an important aspect of this. No matter what WE think about the UW program, we beat their baby.

Thanks hawing. I figured I might have missed one.

Yes it was the overhead picture of Penney. I see what you mean.

Michigan football and Duke hoops in less than a month. Any chance we can Notre Dame in for a scrimmage to take care of everything I loathe in college sports?

I was thinking the exact same thing. I thought for a while that maybe there was a chance that UW might somehow be able to get ND in a football bowl game (wouldn't that be something). For a while there was a real chance that UW might get USC in the Rose Bowl - that would be the equivalent of Pigpen's thesis in PCU being complete for me. If it weren't for this silly bowl allocation system it would be very possible for UW to get USC in a bowl somewhere, but UW will have to go play a SEC or Big 12 team somewhere. (Sigh.)

ND's AD actually announced today that their football program wouldn't accept any bowl bid. They cited 'unique circumstances' or something like that. I mean, I get it... you fired your horribly overpaid & overvalued coach... but wouldn't it be better to let your kids play in a bowl game? Odd.
