John Halama hearts Milwaukee

And That

According to Adam McCalvy, John Halama feels he is on the verge of signing a minor league deal with Milwaukee. Low 80's gas here we come! Eat your heart out, Capuano.

It's good to have depth I guess, but if Halama has significant innings for the Brewers next year, it's quite possible we'll be in trouble.

There was a point when Parra was so bad last year that I started looking at various indy leagues online to see what and who was out there. I stumbled across Halama pitching in the Atlantic League where he was 8-1 for the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. I told myself to check back on him in another couple weeks because the Atlantic League by far the most veteran laden indy league and maybe this guy could make it back to the big leagues. About a day or two later, the Braves signed him and sent him to AAA where he was so-so but certainly not terrible.

Look, Halama had a pretty decent major league career, 56-48, 4.65 ERA, mostly all in the AL. He turns 38 in January, but he's never stopped pitching. He could provide some starter depth at AAA. As for low 80's, well Moyer won a lot of games after he turned 38 throwing in that range. Who's to say Halama couldn't do it?

Another old lefty that pitched in indy ball last year was non other than Bill Pulsipher, who split last year between the Mexican League and Winnipeg of the Northern League where he went 4-2 with a 3.35 ERA. As long as they are considering Halama, why not Pulsipher too?

He said he's excited to play in Milwaukee and wants to play for Peterson and Macha again. Well he wasn't the type of player I'd expect to be joining the Brewers to follow the new pitching coach here, but if it can bring other Oakland A trio here, I'd be happy. Here's lookin at you Mulder. Nothing wrong with veteran lefties in my eyes. especially since our other lefties, Parra and Narveson are still quite young. And yes, he does beat Burns or McClung in spot starts imho too.
