More MP changes: Parking lots to be renamed, terrace level Fan Zone to be remodeled, more.

hawing

Fans of the Brewers' Facebook page got what appears to be a sneak peek Thursday at new names for the parking lots. Those which to date have been named for non-Milwaukee teams will be renamed for Brewers/Braves players. There will still be a Brewers lot and a Braves lot. For example, the Giants lot (which I know is the general parking lot of choice for a number of us here at Brewerfan) will become the Molitor lot.

From the Facebook album:

The "Uecker Lot" will include a special twist for fans. For every game, 10 spaces will be available in "Uecker's Front Row." Every night, 10 cars paying cash for general parking will be selected at random to move up to the front row of the Uecker Lot for only $1. A row of decorated "Uecker's Front Row" parking spaces will be reserved for these randomly selected fans.
The Uecker lot is the new name for either the Mets or Dodgers lot (I think Mets; we hardly ever park there).

The terrace level store will also be renovated. Here's hoping it will continue to have a discount section - which I know has been enjoyed and utilized by me and other bf.net members.

Presumably a brewers.com press release will be forthcoming. Edit: And here it is.

seeing how eco-conscious prince fielder appears to be, they should name the bicycle racks after the slugger.

mass transit pick-up and drop-off spots, commonly called bus stops, would be rechristened bust stops and named after jeffrey hammonds, franklin stubbs and eric gagne.

and if grossly overpaid fans ever come to miller park via helicopter, they should land on the jeff suppan helipad.

Sponsorships sound cool until you consider the fact that they change fairly frequently. You want the naming scheme to persist for a while.

The Uecker lot is way too prominent. It should be in that gray-colored lot just southeast of the Molitor lot.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

I was hoping for just an Itchy lot, and fittingly, a Scratchy lot.
Either that, or Carl and Lenny lots. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

Further summarization of the press release (linked here and in the lead post):

  • The terrace level store is being renovated.
  • The outdoor smoking area off the field level's RF corner is being upgraded (I suppose in preparation for the statewide smoking ban kicking in next July).
  • The Milwaukee Braves Wall of Honor display in the field level concourse is being spiffed up.
  • The Brewers' clubhouse is being repainted and recarpeted on the inside, and the entrance is being redone.
  • The right field corner of the terrace level concourse (previously an indoor smoking area) is being remodeled into office and meeting space for Baseball Operations staff.

Anyone else notice how the article says that 2010 is the 40th season for the Brewers? If you do the math 2009 was the 40th season...not sure how you botch that up.
They are also calling this year the 10th year of baseball at miller park, so they got the math right on one of em, but not the other?

Opening Day will represent the Brewers' 39th birthday, but it's their 40th season. The team has celebrated other "anniversary" seasons in the same manner. While it's easy to view this as strange, it's technically correct.

If you count Opening Day 1970 as their "birthday", won't they be turning 40 on opening day 2010? Making this their 41st season.

If the team was "born" in April 1970, then opening day 1971 was their first birthday and opening day 2010 is their 40th birthday (or anniversary). If 1970 was the first season, 1971 was their second,...then 2010 is their 41st.

I think the parking lot names should reflect the relative abilities of the guys taking the cash and making change as you enter: Slow, Slower and Slowest.

For some reason, they all seem to want to engage in conversation instead of taking your cash and making change quickly if needed and getting you into the lot.

I stand corrected. http://images.yuku.com/image/gif/dc33563353a14a575ba94c440bef6fdb3266a35.gif

However, in the past, the team has celebrated anniversaries in a manner that would seem to be a year early. It would have been the equivalent of celebrating the 40th anniversary season in 2009 (the team's 40th season). I bet hawing could find some programs or media guides substantiating that.

I'll admit, I appreciate it when "our" parking lot guy (Lee Roy, long of the Giants/Molitor lot) stops us to ask what our MPG was on each trip to Miller Park. (We have a Prius and one day in 2008, out of the blue, he asked us how we liked it.) It makes me feel that much more welcome. To Lee Roy's credit, he doesn't chat much when there's a line; but we usually arrive early enough to allow a moment.

As for franchise milestones, if the Brewers are calling 2010 the "40th anniversary season," that seems reasonable. The "40th season" was 2009 (since the first season in Milwaukee was 1970).

My 25th anniversary sweatshirt is dated 1994, which is consistent with labeling 2010 as the 40th anniversary.

Finally, I think the 2010 Seattle series would be a fine time for some Pilots action. We could wear the Pilots caps we got at Safeco Field in 2006. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

That lot is where vendors/Sportservice workers/maybe some ushers park.

If 1994 is the 25th anniversary, wouldn't that make 2009 the 40th anniversary?

Dang it, you're right. I'm thinking like it's still 2009. (Maybe because at the moment, it still is.)

Well, I still think they can acceptably call 2010 the "40th anniversary season", in that forty years ago will have been the first season of the current iteration of the Milwaukee Brewers.

That is a different way to recognize a milestone than they used to celebrate the 25th anniversary.

What I wonder - and I realize this is taking the thread on a tangent - is why, in the videoboard opening montage during 2009, they referred to "FOUR DECADES OF PRIDE." It almost makes me wonder if they didn't think ahead on the "40th anniversary" thing, got too far into the 08-09 off season to be able to plan for it (maybe distracted by the postseason excitement?), and decided to insert the "four decades" statement as a small acknowledgment, while gearing up for a more prominent celebration in 2010.

Just heard back from my rep - he's not 100% sure that the lot name changes are going to last more than the 40th anniversary season. But, he's checking into what they're doing with the old signs.

Giants Lot Brewing Company (SgtClueLs' beer-brewing friends) sure could use one of those Giants lot signs.
