Yep, they had top juco big man (6'9"/6'10", I think Juco All-American) committed for next year but he got his scholarship rescinded because of some trouble with the law IIRC. They need to find at least a power forward with that.

He was an oversized SG not a big man. Kid always had issues, Buzz should have never offered him. Oh well, it's in the past now.

Rough loss. The Warriors just looked gassed down the stretch. It could be a long season in the big east with such a short bench. Hopefully when all of Buzz's recruits get here we will be a little more deep in the coming years.

Yea it really hurt their depth when both Junior Cadougan and Chris Otule suffered season ending injuries. Who knows if each guy would have got big time minutes, but they'd at least have been able to provide some minutes to give other key players some rest. Otule's injury hurt especially bad because even though he's still developing as a player, he at least was 6'10 and could have provided some size for interior defense. That said, next year Buzz will in effect be adding 4 very talented players to this team and only Hayward will be a significant loss.

They add Vander Blue who was a top 25 recruit. Jamail Jones was a top 50-75 player recruit depending on the evaluation service. They just added Reggie Smith who is supposed to be a crazy good athlete that just needs to get better refining his PG abilities. Junior Cadougan hopefully comes back healthy to run the point. The team is going to have tons of talent at the 1-2-3 positions on the court and Butler/Maymon probably have the body types to be ok at the four spot. They'll just badly need Otule and/or Mbao to be solid next year at providing some defensive presence in the paint. If that happens, look out, Marquette will be a very tough team to beat. They also could use some better luck on the injury front.

No, it was a big man. Buzzed offered JUCO Monterale Clark and he was a very athletic 6'9 PF that was a rebounder and shot blocker. He was a very risky offer by Buzz given his past and my guess is Buzz learned a lesson from that. Obviously not all JUCO kids are troublemakers, look at what a great kid Butler is. That said, coaches need to be careful because a decent chunk of these JUCO kids are risks and character evaluations need to be in depth so a mistake doesn't tarnish the university.

I can't wait for the UW-MU game this season!

Yea it should be a very interesting match up. Prior to the season, i thought Marquette would struggle quite a bit and Wisconsin should win quite easily. After watching Marquette though, they are better than i expected and talk about two completely contrasting styles and roster between UW and MU. Wisconsin is more experienced and a lot bigger while Marquette is vastly more athletic.Wisconsin will be favored and rightfully so, especially with the game in Madison, but it should be a fun game to watch.

He is not a post player. He is a perimeter face the basket type player. That is why I called him an oversized SG. And his issues stem all the back to HS here in Milwaukee. If you know some HS coaches you should ask around about him. Interesting stuff.

Maymon is going to struggle against other "bigs" in the Big East. He is maybe 6'5", at best. Dont believe me, stand next to him......Blue (6'4") is almost the same height.

He got away with this hight in Wisconsin High School ball, but when he starts playing against the big time opponents, he is going to have to play a lot quicker than he has shown the ability to. He is a very left handed player.....but the kid has the ability to improve, and it wouldnt surprise me if he changed from mostly a post in HS to a wing type player in college.

Marq. fans should remember to relax this season and take whatever wins they get.....the team is very young and Blue will be a major stud next season. If they can land JP Tokoto (only a soph, but a bigger recruit than even Blue according to everywhere you look) the Warriors could really, really be good.

Yea, he's 6'5" maybe 6'6". but he does have a body that should be able to bang in the Big East. I don't see him playing quicker, that's not his game. He needs to learn how to score in the post, but more importantly how to rebound and defend. Something he didn't need to know in Wisc HS ball. He was big enough to do very well without worrying about technique. Now, he really needs to learn the art of rebounding. How to pump fake and draw fouls in the post, how to take a charge...all that stuff.

I haven't seen much of Duke, but I think Bucky is versatile enough to give any team in the country a good game this season. The only teams that should really worry Bo a lot are the ones with legit bigs (like Kansas, for example). This will be the second game I've been able to watch (other was AZ), so of course I'm psyched.

Hah. Hughes was just on fire, and Bohannon played a nice game even without scoring a lot. Hughes's teardrop fall-away jumper in the lane made me just shout nonsense. I really love Trevon, even though I get the impression he's a streaky shooter. But my goodness, did he put some moves on Duke's guards on the perimeter & driving the lane tonight. How about his crossover from the right wing, finishing with the left-handed layup after slashing through the lane? He's just a special athlete, and I couldn't stop thinking "sticky feet" was the best way to explain Hughes. Plus, as guards go, he's pretty strong. The ability from Bohannon to competently man the point will be huge, since Hughes is so quick & able to get open off the ball, or in case of an injury to Trevon. I'm ok with Taylor as depth, but not a fan yet overall of him getting a ton of minutes.

I really loved to see Nankivil & co. down low asserting themselves so well. Didn't hurt that Bob Knight kept raving about the Badgers' post play, either. I really don't think I'm exaggerating when I say that I think there are probably only about 10 teams in the country that are notably more talented than this team overall. And most of it would have to do with having legit, big, post players.

Bucky's defense tonight overall was just sensational. Don't know how many people caught the Illini's astounding comeback, but their defense was tremendous as well. The Big Ten is just ridiculous this season. I think the teams that wind up making the Big Dance will do very well, since seemingly every conference game this year should be against top-64 talent. Am I remembering it wrong that Singler was absolutely torching Leuer tonight? Bo noted in his postgame comments that (paraphrasing), '[singler] got some points in the first half, but I thought Evans & Jarmusz played him great in the second half.' I think I'd remember Evans's flat-top covering Singler so much in the first half, but of course memory is faulty. I wish Leuer could shore up his defense, because I love what he can do on O.

I'm pretty sure it was Evans and sometimes Taylor guarding Singler in the first half, or at least most of the last of the first half. Right now it doesn't seem like Evans is a very good player, but he sure does hustle out there. Big win for the Badgers and the Big Ten.

Thankfully, Wisconsin is deep in mediocre guards.

Taylor and Evans sure look like they're going to be major help defensively this year, with a nice potential to step in with some development offensively after Travon and Bohannon are gone.

Hughes = very, very good. Bohannon is not nearly as good of a shooter as people think he is. He is hitting 31% of his 3-point shots this year, and hit 36.6% of his 3's last year. 39.3% as a soph was the best he's done (36.4% as a frosh). His field goal % has declined every year, and is under 40% this year and last year - not that good for an upperclassmen. Over the last four years he has missed way too many open 3's for me to classify him as a very good player. He's decent, but nothing special.

Yeah, the ESPN ticker I saw tonight noted two broken vertebrae. OUCH.

Count me as one of those people that still thinks he's an outstanding shooter. Guys that hit at a ~90% clip at the FT line can shoot, period (imho). I wouldn't be surprised to see him hit well over those rates you noted this season, especially if Hughes continues to be McNasty & draw defenders into the lane as he drives (not to mention more attention from defenses in general). And like I mentioned earlier, Bohannon's ability to man the point competently just increases his value that much more.

So, I realize that this game is at UW-GB and that they are a decent team. However, the line has Wisconsin only favored by 4? That seems pretty low.

Were they factoring in that they might have to forfeit due to traveling in the weather or something? I agree that's way low.

BTN says it's showing Purdue and Valpo tonight.

And the spread on the site I use has UW -5.5 which is a little more palatable.
