Gord Ash talking Prospects with Brewers.com

I like what Ash said about Jeffress,

"Regarding Jeffress, we hope to have him active by June 1, and if he stays committed to his plan, there is no physical reason cannot be a Major League player within the next 12-24 months."

Robin Yount - “But what I'd really like to tell you is I never dreamed of being in the Hall of Fame. Standing here with all these great players was beyond any of my dreams.”

I thought the comment about the team opening their own Dominican camp was particularly exciting. I know this is something that has been alluded to before since the Brewers partnered with the Orioles this past year. Melvin had pretty good success developing talent from Latin America when he was with the Rangers, so hopefully this avenue can prove to be more fruitful than what it has been. Alcides Escboar is a nice start!

Also interesting that they are going to re-assess Lawrie's placement in the spring. I guess I just felt that his AA assignment was proof that the team wanted to put him on the accelerated fast-track. He still might be, but Brevard County still sounds like a realistic option.

Overall some good stuff. Ash was pretty candid in his responses.

This is the part that jumped out of that statement: "no physical reason"

- Even when healthy and active, he wasn't getting great results. Knowing how to pitch is still an issue.

- Obviously, the extra-curricular activites are a worry also

I'm glad to hear Jones signed a contract. Much better option than Green or C. Wright last year at AAA.

I smell a hint of trade value inflation when I read that comment from Ash on Jeffress. If there's anything to tout about the kid right now, it's his physical tools.

An interesting response to a question about the Rattlers' game played in Miller Park this past season:

"Yes, this game is scheduled again for 2010. In fact, in time we would like to broaden this concept to include some of our other Minor League affiliates. Perhaps even a "Futures" type game against another Major League organization in September."

That intra-organizational 'futures game' concept is exciting to me. That would be pretty cool, especially at MP.

More praise for D'Vontrey Richardson at the tail end of the chat

As far as non-pitching prospects go, D'Vontrey is rapidly becoming one of my favorites. The Brewers seem to have a very well-stocked system, which of course is nice in general, but also a nice bit of ammo to have in an offseason where trading for top-tier pitching is the #1 priority.

I liked when he said Rogers will start in AA...then said, "don't forget, at this day in age, it's not uncommon for players to make the jump from AA to the majors."
I've said it before, my bet is that Rogers is the first pitcher called up, and might very well stay up until he reaches his innings limit for the year.
