Good point Invader. But I am unsure either way. I am sure their fans will tell you that he won't be dumped just to clear salary if you asked them on a message board. But maybe they'd take some type of cheaper talent along with Suppan and Riske. The combined savings along with whatever talent we give them (say Todd Coffey since they could use the backend bullpen help) might make it a deal they'd jump at.

Well, that's what I was thinking. A Lowe for Suppan deal would probably raise the ire of Braves fans. You'd need to throw someone else in, or make the two part of a larger package. Brewers throw in Hart or McGehee, Braves throw in a pitching prospect. Something like that with more players involved.

That would probably be more realistic, possibly. I could see Suppan/McGehee(or Hart) for Lowe/pitching prospect, like you said.

Sounds like the 1997 Cleveland Indians debacle where the Brewers helped them free up salary to sign Kenny Lofton

 

Derek Lowe = Marquis Grissom

Tim Hudson = Kenny Lofton

 

Don't take on another team's scraps to allow them the payroll flexibility to sign the better player. Go after the better player.

 

As far as trading Suppan, as much as I want him gone, I don't do it for an additional two years of Lowe. Our four year nightmare of Suppan starts is nearly over.
