I dont know why people are thinking that it is ok the go into the season with the same depth and personnel we had last year. Right now Jeff Suppan is the 5th starter, which makes Chris Narveson #6 when and if a pitcher goes down. Id sooner lose Narveson and.or cut Suppan than go into the season with those two getting meaningful innings. Now I dont think Melvin needs to get crazy and overpay for Davis or Washburn or even commit to more than one year for either, but they certainly are upgrades and we certainly need more guys who can pitch. Despite last year's very small sample I am still not sold on Cladio Vargas being any help whatsoever this season as well.

Yeah, sounds likes he's closer to retiring than not.

"I haven't officially [retired] yet," Glavine said. "I don't know why. I think if anybody has any common sense, they can figure out that I'm probably not going to pitch again."
