NHL 2009/2010 Season

burniebrewer

I've been watching as much as I can this weekend and I know there are some fellow fans among us. As some of you know, Versus (the network of the NHL) has been pulled from the DirecTV lineup due to a dispute with Comcast.

If you want to get the Center Ice package, contact DirecTV and complain about Versus being pulled. I contacted them and got the entire season for under $80.

If you are a borderline fan, they are offering Center Ice on a free preview for 4 weeks. That's great, but I'd be addicted after 4 weeks. Act now and go for the discount...I've read of some people getting better deals, but I was thrilled with 50% off.

Politics aside, the NHL is loaded with exciting young players and I look forward to this new season.

EDIT- Crap, sorry I posted this in Major Leagues. I'm fired up watching games tonight and thought I was in off-topic. Thanks in advance for moving it, mods!

(edit 2: you're welcome - hawing)

Getting a free preview of NHL Network. Some great games so far already played on it. I went to watch the Wild and Predators games tonight, website was down so I couldn't. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif

We should make this an AHL thread too. The Admirals opened up their season tonight in Chicago with a 3-2 win. Backup goalie from last year Mark Dekanich bested starting goalie from last year Drew MacIntyre.

Edit: And the Predators win their season opener in Dallas 3-2 in a shootout! Former Admiral Mike Santorelli notches the game winning tally in the fifth round of the shootout.

So NHL Network broadcasts CBC games which is a Canadian Network. I love listening to the announcers and their accents. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

Calgary looks pretty good.

Nothing better than "Hockey Night in Canada". Those Saturday night matchups always feel like the playoffs. For the most part, teams from Canada play each other on Saturday night.

Didn't he just sign a huge contract along the lines of DiPietro's in NY? Something like 15 years?

A few great games that I watched last night.

Flyers beat the Capitals in overtime 6-5. Richards with a hat trick.

The Wild came back from a 3-0 third period deficit to send the game into overtime. Brunette got the game winner on OT on a power play off a rebound from Giguere putting it top shelf. Belanger got the tying goal on the powerplay with just over two minutes left on a sharp angled shot from just above the left circle.

Edmonton and Dallas also went to overtime, but it wasn't decided then (although Edmonton was close as Patrick O'Sullivan fed Tom Gilbert from the left circle down to the crease, but Marty Turco slid across and made the save.) I was sort of hoping for that goal because it would be O'Sullivan to Gilbert. Gilbert O'Sullivan connection, get it? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

Edmonton ended up winning the shootout 1-0. The only tally came in the third round from Ales Hemsky.

Josh Harding is just awful. Gets the Wild in a two goal deficit three minutes into the game, they trail 3-0 and then 4-1, get to within 4-3 and then give up two more goals and lose 6-3. Although I will say the fifth goal was lazy defense that led to a 2 on 1 and a beautiful pass from right to left gave a wide open net, so that one wasn't his fault, but he let so many easy goals in last night.

Predators come back and beat the Avalanche! Former Admiral Patric Hornqvist scored two in the third period including the game winner with just over five minutes left. Congrats to Triston Grant on his promotion to Nashville as well.

Admirals play tonight at 7 PM in Peoria.

  • 2 months later...

Been a while since anyone has posted in this thread.

After a slow start the Predators have played very well and are now 20-11-3 which is only good for 2nd place in the Central Division and 5th place in the Western Conference.

Wild doing better, but still out of the playoffs by four points.

The Admirals have won five straight games and now now in 2nd place in the Western Conference West Division behind the Texas Stars. The five game winning streak is pretty impressive since three of the games came on the road (Grand Rapids, Toronto and Hamilton) all three of those teams have winning percentages of .537 or better and the other two were at home against Manitoba with a .545 winning percentage and San Antonio who is in last place. But still, four out of the five wins have been very impressive.

The Admirals (15-8-1-4) take on the hated Wolves (13-13-0-2) tomorrow in Chicago.

Two big road wins for my teams last night. Wild get the win in Montreal thanks to some stellar goaltending by Niklas Backstrom.

Nashville gets a 6-3 win in Edmonton after giving up the first two goals in the first five minutes of the game, they come back with three goals in 4:46 from Ryan Jones, Joel Ward and Marcel Goc. The Oilers cut the lead to 4-3 with 5:50 to go in the second but Patric Hornqvist's powerplay goal with four seconds left in the second period gave the Preds a 5-3 lead.
