Weeks Strongly Opposes Being Moved to the Outfield

Baldkin[/b]]Lopez is having a career year. He has a .338 career OBP, a 3 year split of .308 (!!), .343 and .381 this year.

Signing him to the deal he would require (3 years, 30 million probably, maybe 4 years, 28 million) means no Cameron next year. I'd rather keep Cam and have him leading off next year.

I would be shocked if Lopez get's anything more than a 3 year $24 mil contract. Although, I should be use to being shocked by player contracts by now.

Rickie Weeks worked very hard at becoming a good second baseman and now that he is one he shouldnt be moved.

I vividly remember a dropped ball in Game 1 versus the Phillies that ultimately allowed the deciding runs to cross the plate. If Weeks makes that play, a fairly easy play IIRC, they are up 1-0 after game 1 and 2-1 after Game 3. So a "good" 2B - he has a lot to prove to me.

I do agree though on the "Lopez is having a career/contract year" side, however that's for a different thread.

You vividly remember that play because it was Game 1 of the first playoff series in 26 years. If that play happened in game 45 you most likely would not have remembered it. You have to remember to look at the whole picture when judging his defense. I can say that I have a lot more confidence in him as as fielder than I did say a year and a half ago.

Lopez can also play LF so if we do trade Hart and/or we don't bring back Cameron he can easily find AB out there. I wouldn't mind moving Braun to RF.

If we go into next season depending on Weeks to be healthy, Escobar to be ready for a full season and McGehee to be productive and healthy (his knee is obviously a concern) then I think we will be getting ourselves in trouble. We need a lot of depth on the IF because we have a lot of ifs.

I agree with the notion that they'd find ABs for Lopez and that he'd be worth bringing back, but I don't want any part of Braun to right field. Let him become competent in left field first. Braun is one of the left fielders in the league, so I don't want to move him to a more difficult position.

I vividly remember Cameron dropping a ball that would've been the third out in game one, but instead allowed the Phillies to score three runs. Using your logic, that would mean Cameron is a bad defender as well and has a lot to prove to you.

I'm just laughing that some thing Weeks couldn't handle CF, in part because of a weak arm (poor mechanics lead to a poor arm). I remember seeing him play an adequate SS in the AFL. He's got good ranger and arm strength.
For me it's less the physical part and more the instinctual part. I've seen that guy take the most ridiculous routes to pop ups I shudder to think what he'd do on some line drives to center.

To me it is not his arm or his athletic ability that I would be worried about it would be his tracking of fly balls and running to spots in the OF that will be a problem a huge problem. If you make an error in CF that is an automatic triple or an inside the park home run unless the hitter was a Molina. I would be very afraid of Weeks in CF by how he takes routes to simple pop ups. I would be very afraid of line drives and long pop flies in the OF. Hart and Braun are bad enough in the OF as it is now you want to put Weeks out there also? That would be the worst OF in baseball.
