Tim Hudson

Tim Hudson brings many things to the table to like:

1. Contract- 3 more years 32 million( not cheap but Brewer do-able. We offered Lee more for more years)

2. Inning eater- stability (rarely misses starts)

3. A legit number 2( even with a down year last year, strikeouts were up considerably. Braves might undervalue his worth right now)

4. Sheets could be moved for mega parts next off-season, if needed or wanted

5. The move would energize the fan base.

Here's the deal, though. To get you have to give. Billy Hall's stock is really huge right now. I also have a feeling A. Jones will not be with them much longer, so Hall might fit their thinking in center or at third- Chipper can't be there forever.

-Hall for Hudson. Maybe throw in a Hendrickson/Inman type. We would have a legitimate starting rotation, possibly the best in baseball.

-The Crew could keep Mench or Jenks around for another year, if need be to make up for some of the lost production in the OF.

- Hart could be in center until Gwynn or Gross matures( Yeah, Gross- he's young and his numbers are very underrated)

- Especially if Graffy signs, we have a surplus of infielders, so Hall wouldn't be as needed anymore for back-up.

- Our budget would be OK. With Hall due some hefty raises in the next few years, Hudson's salary wouldn't be a huge hit to the Brewers payroll.

This post has been long in coming. I really like the idea of a top notch rotation. This move would do it. I would think that the Braves might take trade, or look hard at it. Seriously, who wouldn't take a hard look at Bill Hall?

Hudson is coming off his worst season in the bigs (4.86).

I would hope we could land a better player than Hudson for Hall straight up, but then to add/keep the salaries of Jenkins and Hudson would not be wise IMO.

I don't see why so many people want Hall traded? Until his FA year I can't even fathom the idea of trading a young hitter like that.

If the Brewers really think Bill Hall is an OF, then I'd absolutely trade Hall for Hudson. Sheets-Hudson-Capuano would be one great top of the rotation.

If the Brewers realize that Bill Hall at SS is putting up Hall of Fame numbers, no way do I trade Hall, period.

But I'd still want Hudson. I'd try to find another way to trade for him. But why would Atlanta want to trade Hudson?

I love Tim Hudson, but at this point it is more as a human being, rather than as a baseball player. I think he's getting pretty near to the end, all that stress on his body has caught up to him. It's a pretty great achievement for a little guy like him to last as long as he has, but right now he's likely to be about a 4.50 ERA guy - which wouldn't be worth his salary. The most scary thing is that his HR rate is jumping, and it would jump even more at Miller Park, and his GB% is dropping. I don't think he even throws his split anymore, either.

And there's no way I'd trade the Brewers best player for a number three caliber pitcher.

Which they would quickly lose. It takes two to tango, and Zito and Schmidt wouldn't have any interest in coming to Milwaukee, and I don't think the Brewers would have any interest in Mulder. He wouldn't be a wise investment for them.

While I agree you have to give up something to get something in return, I can''t agree with any trade involving BIlly Hall. He might have had just one of those magical years, and will fall back to whatever his "normal" might be. But, at this point, we don't know that, and given how offensively-challenged this team is, giving up offense for pitching doesn't seem to add up. At least to me.

I don't think you get Hudson without dealing Hall.

They have Chipper and Renteria on the left side of the infield, pretty much set in stone.

What the Braves need is relief pitching and starting pitching. I think Hudson will bounce back.

I just don't think the Crew lines up well with Atlanta now that we have a catcher.

No way would I trade for Hudson and give up Hall and throwing in Inman too. Atlanta would say yes sooo fast to that one it would be ridiculous. Our best offensive player and our second best pitching prospect dealt for a mid 4 ERA guy, just doesn't seem fair.

I like Hudson and wouldn't mind him on the team, but not at this cost.

Pogokat brought up a real good point in another thread about trading Hall. Someone posted whether or not you would trade Hall for Miguel Cabrera and of course there was interest in doing that. But a poster said Hall + Inman/Braun (or something similar) for Cabrera and pogo said why wouldn't you do that almost straight up Hall for Cabrera? Hall will give you 95% of what Cabrera will give you, so you shouldn't have to throw in another big time prospect.

With that said, while I respect your opinion, getting Hudson for Hall would be way to expensive for my tastes considering what he gives you at age 26 and that the Crew controls him to 2009. Also, coupled with the fact that if you really look at Hall's stats compared to other players, you would have to assume that you would be talking about better pitchers than Hudson or positional players like Crawford, Cabrera, etc. as fair compensation for a trade.

I too think dealing Hall for Hudson would be a bad idea. Hudson hasn't dominated in alomst 2 1/2 years and when he did he had trouble with his oblique. If he remained the player he was when he signed with Atlanta he'd be a good deal but with who he is now he is slightly overpaid. He is close to being the pitching equivalent to Geoff Jenkins. His ERA was close to or over 5.00 for most of last season.
