2009-09-27 Phillies (Blanton) at Brewers (Bush) : 1:05 CT [Brewers lose, 6-5]

hawing

The end of the home season, hawing said with a sigh.

The Journal Sentinel says there will be a surprise for fans attending today, which sounds more fan-appreciation-esque than a brewerfan-esque surprise, like a Gamel appearance.

No lineups as of 10:30, so I hope someone posts them later. Here's hoping for a happy home ending.

What an abysmal season for Bush this year.

Yep. If him and Parra had come even reasonably close to their projections on the year, the Brewers would likely be right on pace to win the 85-ish games you'd have projected them to win coming into the year.

Some scratch off vouchers were for free tickets for next year (April 6th and 7th and the Pirates series in April are the only eligible games), some had a $10 food voucher good for 2010, and some said "game-used item".

We got one game-used item ticket. We had to take it to a table on the 2nd deck. Once there, you drew a number out of the bag. You got the appropriate pre-wrapped item. Some were used bats, some were used jerseys. We (when I say we I actually mean my SO) got a game-used lineup card. She asked if it was from this year and we were assured that it was. We opened up the bag and it was from 6/24/08 with Ned Yost's signature on it. My SO (who hated Yost) was really mad about the card, until I pointed out her favorite batter (Branyan) started the game and her favorite pitcher (Shouse) was listed in the bullpen. We stopped by a shop and found that they sold these for about $20. We wish we had gotten a jersey, but can't complain about a free item. Also, the game was an away game.

The S.O. got a concessions voucher and I got a free April loge ticket. I saw someone nearby (not Robin19's SO) with a lineup card and wondered if that was one of the memorabilia choices - though it sounds like it wasn't really a 'choice.' At least 6/24/08 was in the 'wild card season' and the game was a win over Atlanta (per my media guide) - those are positives I'd take from winning that card. And yeah, Branyan.

For today, I'll give the Brewers credit for making a game of it, eventually. Given their overall woes and just-under-.500 home record in 2009, I am not going to complain about seeing 18 wins vs. 12 losses. 12 happens to be the number of losses we saw in 2008.

I'm already ready for April 2010. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif

4 ticket vouchers for our family.

I must be doing something right with my son. As we left the game today (after posing for a picture taken by Hawing below us), my son said, "I hate this day. Even on the years when they win." April can't come soon enough.

I must be helping you mold him, bensheeps, because he's just like me. Right now is like December 26 was when I was a kid.

Oh, and while that photo didn't turn out, I'm hoping the secret one I snapped while your son was moving it, moving it will turn out better. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

I'd like to add that there was a hilarious (to watch, maybe not to be part of) sausage pileup during the race today. Down went Chorizo. Down went Polish. Italian either also fell or stopped to help, which allowed the Brat to literally run away with the last race title of 2009.

The season sausage race results total 85 races:

17 Brat wins

11 Polish

15 Italian

22 Hot Dog

20 Chorizo

I expected more than 81 because of the 12 inning game on September 6, but I'm not sure when the other extras happened.

I agree that today feels like December 26th. Last year was especially bad because the last game was a playoff game loss that came less than 24 hours after I left game 3 the happiest I have ever been as a Brewers fan.

There's still some unfinished business this year. We need to win 4/6 to get to .500 and the Atlanta Braves need our help.
