What to do with Salome and Lucroy

nate82

I believe the Brewers should just leave Salome and Lucroy at their current minor league clubs. What I don't want to see is Lucroy and Salome both in AAA at the same time. This does no good for either of them. I want Lucroy and Salome to be playing nearly everyday and that can not happen when you have two good catchers on the same team. One of them will get shafted for playing time and I just do not want to see Salome or Lucroy sitting on the bench when they could be a level lower playing.

I am hoping the Brewers do not put both of them in AAA which I believe would be a big mistake.

I'm hoping they give Lucroy an opportunity to make the big league team in spring training. On the other hand, if Macha is back next year and they resign Kendall, Lucroy would basically rot on the bench all year, so maybe that wouldn't be the best idea. I think Salome could use more time in AAA due to him being injured for a nice chunk of this season. It'll be interesting to see what happens.

I agree still as well. Salome seems a more advanced hitter who simply has been hampered by injury. I vote they stay at their current levels until we absolutely can't hold one of them down any longer. I also think Lucroy is going to struggle vs AAA pitching before he's ready.

Their career OPS are pretty much identical. Salome is ahead .847 to .844. Salome has a higher level under his belt. Lucroy has shown to more durable over his short time playing 120 plus game in both his full seasons. Salome's high season is 105 with one other above 82. The big difference seems to lie in their defense. Salome's CS % is 28 where Lucroy's is 43 for his minor league career.

Arguments can be made for each guy but since Salome is already a level higher I would assume he is the one that could get moved up. His defense and injury history are question marks. Lucroy's first half struggles this year and his having to jump from AA to the majors are his questions with the latter being the bigger one.

IMO we should just keep both of them. Its been a very, very long time since we've had a decent offensive MLB catcher, and I'm willing to gamble that one of these two will eventually change that. They may have to be creative in where to place them, but I don't see it as a problem.

I would probably just tell them in spring training that they are both considered equal prospects, and let them battle it out for where they go. Hopefully one of them steps up and makes the MLB roster next season.
