Goals for the last two weeks

SeriesFinale

--Finish at .500 or better. Unlikely, but who knows.

--Don't let the Rockies clinch a playoff spot when they play against the Crew next week...likelier, and watching the Rockies celebrate would probably be one last jab of the rusty dull butterknife in my gut this season

--As many Escobar/Gamel starts as possible, and failing that, a strong showing by Hardy down the stretch.

Despite it all, I'll be sad when the season ends, and any of these would make me feel better once we head into what could be a pretty crazy off-season

--Agreed on #1.

--Don't really care about #2. I think it will serve as motivation for next year having the players watch that.

--Agreed on #3 - I think it should be #2

--McGehee wins ROY (#3)

--Axford gets some innings to show whether he could be a potential setup guy should Hoffman not come back and Coffey becomes the closer next year

I don't really care about the record at this point. I'm not going to hope for losses, but helping our draft position wouldn't be bad.

Don't care about the Rockies clinching either. I actually like the Rockies and will be rooting for them in the playoffs.

Axford, Gamel, Escobar, Rivera and Butler get some playing time. I'd like to see Butler get at least one start although it sounds like Parra will be back and he'll take Gallardo's rotation spot and Narveson will take Parra's.

- Finish .500 or better

- Don't get thrashed by the Cubs anymore

- Prince hits .300

- Jason Kendall announces his retirement immediately following the season finale, in which he had the game winning hit (an infield single that blooped over the head of the pitcher and landed in front of the middle infielders)

- Win the series against the Cubs. I know it doesn't matter, but they should be fairly demoralized and we're playing at Miller Park. Beat them, and maybe take 2nd place before the end of the season.

- Finish at .500 or better if possible. The draft is such a crap shoot that I don't think moving a spot or two up or down is going to make a big difference. I'd rather feel good about the season despite all the adversity than chalk up another losing one on the franchise record.

- Play the young guys as much as possible. This includes Casey McGehee, who should get some consideration in the ROY voting.

- Have the pitchers focus on not giving up as many home runs. OK, this may be impossible, but should be an expectation going forward.

- Announce very soon after the season ends that Trevor Hoffman has been signed to an extension (so technically not in the next two weeks, but it would be a nice morale boost for the fan base). I would also like to see Hoffman get as close to 40 saves as possible.

1. .500 record or better

2. Play the young fellas to get them some more major league AB's

3. McGehee making a push for ROY

4. Fielder beating out Pujols for RBI title

5. Win 2 of 3 from Cubs, at least split with Phillies, take 2 of 3 from Rockies and Cards (maybe a long shot, but I can dream, can't I?)

Doing #5 would get them to 82 wins, btw.

The number one goal should be to see if Corey Patterson has what it takes to be the CF of the future. We also need to see if Burns and Narveson are good enough to join the rotation. I also would like to see Kendall continue to play every day because we need his power bat in the lineup.

Lastly we need to make sure that Gamel doesnt start any games because he clearly isnt veteran enough to play at this level.

Wow, I read sentence #1 and almost spit coffee on my screen. I got to sentence #2 and realized you weren't serious...at least I hope to God you are not.

1. Finish .500 or better

2. Finish ahead of the Cubs

3. Fire Macha and replace him with anyone who's not one of the undead.

4. McGehee wins ROY and hits 20 HRs

5. Braun hits at least 30 HRs

6. Prince hits at least .300

7. Corey Hart recovers to be the player we know he can be (I still want him as part of our future going forward)

8. Milton Bradley announces he plans to stay and play out his contract, every second of it, with the Cubs!

i honestly don't care about the .500 record at this point. I'd rather let the kids play and see what they can do. I posted this on a few threads but i really want Butler to get the start on Friday, now it looks like Manny is getting it. We know what manny can do. I want to see what Butler can do against a good lineup. Axford looked good last night, lets pitch him in a bigger role than 9th inning mop up. I would like to see Gamel and Escobar get the lion's share of at bats.

Finishing above 500 and ahead of the cubs is nice, and i'd be happy if we do so, but it doesn't save the season by any stretch. We need to start looking towards next year.

I believe ownership really wants to say to season ticket holders that this is 3 straight years of winning baseball in milwaukee and they have turned the corner, but most brewer fans will reject this as anyone can see they took a step back this year.

Win each series, especially vs. the 3 playoff teams remaining on the schedule. Not that it accomplishes much though it would likely get you to .500 too, but it's a boost going into the long off-season to have finished off the year winning series vs. 3 of the 4 playoff teams.

Have the best record possible while being no better than the fifteenth worst team. I really want the Brewers to be in the lower half record-wise so there might be an outside shot that Melvin goes after a type A if there is one available worth the money.

Don't let Corey Patterson get another major league at bat as a Brewers.

3. Give Mat Gamel 8 more ABs so he can graduate off the Power 50 at the end of the year.

Might as well hope for a World Series this year.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

Finish above .500.

Take 2nd place.

Bush pitch really well in every start.

Escobar, Rivera, and Gerut play 2 of every 3 games.

Hart plays great to increase trade value.

Counsell doesn't see another game at 3B.

Corey Patterson strikes out in every plate appearance.

Dare I say a goal should be to have Suppan, Parra, Bush, and Looper pitch poorly enough so that Doug HAS to get at least two new starters? Sounds like a really poor attitude, but maybe Doug thinks we need to prove to be even worse than we have been before he admits we need to get better externally.

Makes a little sense with Looper but the other 3 aren't going anywhere and Bush and Parra shouldn't go anywhere.

My thinking is

1) I want Looper gone

2) I want Suppan to leave a bad enough impression where he won't be counted on as anything more than a sixth starter in case of injury and otherwise will be a longman.

3) This is tough to say, but I want Parra and Bush to be our #4 and #5 next year and not to mislead over the last month that they should be counted on as anything more.

This should help lead Melvin to getting us two starters above Bush and Parra (one through a trade and one through an albeit moderately risky free agent signing).

Nope, nope, not really

Way to finish strong, Brewers.

I'm really not looking forward to the last series against the Cards. I may not watch or listen to them...though I know I probably will out of habit.

I know I shouldn't say this, but does anyone else think that if the Brewers play really bad and get swept by St. Louis, that may make Melvin and Attanasio decide that Macha is not who this club needs as manager next season?
